Door Creaking? 2012 2013?
I have owned two X5's with major door creaking issues. A 2008 and a 2011. We are considering turning in the 2011 next year instead instead of purchasing it in the hopes that the 2012 or 2013 does not creak. I am speaking specifically about the door creak, not the other cheap plastic creaking...even though it would be nice if that was gone too.
So what I'm asking any and all that own or lease a 2012 or 2013 X5, do the doors creak still? Does the "soft close" doors help the creak? Thanks for any help.

"Major"? What do you mean? Creaking from the seals all the time? or only when opening/closing?

Still creaks but for me went away after break-in period. Teflon tape fix should work too.
For what it's worth, have had on other cars, too. But went away. |

Major is a subjective term, but what I mean by it is, doors creak when driving, when body flexes. Teflon tape hasn't helped, adjusting the doors hasn't helped. The only thing that helps is lubing the felt on the doors, that usually lasts about a day or two then the creak comes back. Another (stupid) solution is to drive with the windows down about 1/2 inch and that eliminates the creak.

I drive a new 2012 X5 35d and have noticed a similar sound from the driver's door when going over bumps, etc. A squeak or creak - my wife wouldn't believe the car made that sound initially but now she is convinced. The dealer has looked at it once last weekend, said they heard the same sound, and lubricated "something". I didn't have time to get into details. Needless to say, the sound was there on the drive home. We'll revisit.
They did apply the felt tape to the B-pillars and the clicking everyone talks about is gone. My SA also knew of the problem as soon as I started talking about it. My X5 was part of the recall for improper fitting steering gear or gasket. It didn't have to be fixed per my SA. Not fun to get a call and recall notice on a car with 400 miles on it though. |

Mine is a 2011 so not directly addressing the OP's question but I had the creak, took it in and they fixed it. Crossed fingers because that was two years ago and we're still good. I have soft close doors so that alone isn't a remedy (it's also a pretty pointless feature in my opinion but I digress).

Can someone please explain to me what B pillars are? I have a lot of plastic creaking coming from the rear area as well as the door creaking.

It's the column between the front and rear doors that houses the front seat belts. The bottom portion is hard plastic and is likely the source of the clicking.

My drivers door creaked while driving over speed bumps or anyting else that would flex the car. I was able to pretty much get rid of the creak by putting a small wedge between the door panel and the metal of the door. It is at the front of the door and only visable with the door open. I could cut it to render it invisible but haven't done it.

![]() The blue square you see is a pice of plastic wedged between the door panel and the door frame. It is about an eight of an inch thick. Does that help?

GF's new 2013 doesn't make a sound after 3,500 miles of driving on highways, poor country roads and gravel.

How does this help prevent the door creak? |

In my case the panel was rubbing against the door frame causing the creak. First task is determine just where your creak is coming from then what can be done to stop it.
