Head gasket repair- Opinions Please

I have an opportunity to buy my previous '94 525 back from the guy I sold it to.

He rebuilt the tranny, and did a few cosmetics on it, and didn't put that many miles on it.
Probably has 135-140 on the clock.
Needs paint...but no rust.

Last week, he blew a rad hose.
He made the repair in the parking lot, filled it with water, (didn't properly bleed system) and overheated / blew the HG on the way home.

Question...
Is it worth messing with?
Buy it, then part it out?

I'm sure I could get it for $500.00 to $700.00.
My Indie quoted $2500.00 to $3500.00 for HG job.

Opinions?

How certain is it being blown? The M50 can take quite a drubbing.
Otherwise, if you could part it out - should easily make some money.

You could also do it yourself with a bentley manual and some tools.

If you know the rest of the car is good add it to your fleet. Fix the HG at your leasure. Straight 6 is a breeze to fix. Head recondition is about $500 here. Do a compression check first. You never know your luck. Don't forget boiling will scour out the block and can release debris so flush it out - remove the water pump? Change the thermostat. Enjoy driving what you fix.

If you buy it and pay to have it repaired, you have more in it than you could ever sell it for. Not the worst plan, but only profitable for resale if you do the work yourself.

Parting... do you have the time for that? Lots of email correspondance, lots of packing and shipping. You will make money but you will earn it.

I agree with the above and above that. If you have to pay to have it done you are talking worse case of paying a total of 4K for the car and the repair. Not worth it if you think about what 4K can buy :o)))

If you can do it yourself... It is a great deal...

As for parting... Total PIA LOL...

So think about doing the HG DIY at your leisure :o)))
