DIY: Hose for Altitude pressure sensor

My rubber hose for Altitude pressure sensor shows age and starts to crumble in my hand (#2 in link below):
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=13&fg=15&hl=2

VACUUM HOSE BLACK PN: 11727545323 (Listed price $18!!!).

It is right in front of passenger's side strut tower.

I used standard vacuum tubing (or windshield washer tubing).
The job takes exactly 5 minutes including cutting tubing.
Use alittle oil to slide the new tubing through the grommet.

This is the shortest, quickest and easiest DIY of the E39 DIYs!!!
Skill level is 0 out 10 (10 is level of engine rebuilding!).
Actually it took me longer to finish my beer than doing this simple DIY!

Hi Cam! What was the symptom that caused you to check the hose? After replacement, did you notice any difference?

Happy 4th!

Rich,

No symptoms just looking around the engine bay and wondered what this thingy was.
Touched the hose and it crumpled in my hand!
Later I researched and found out this is an Altitude Sensor. I guess it measures mm Hg in reference to sea level to adjust fuel-to-air ratio.

Nothing important, I guess without the hose the Altitude Sensor still works but now at risk for debris entering it.
If you look carefully then the hose goes into a well-enclosed environment.

Happy 4th!!! Fireworks tonight yahoo!!!!

I was doing some research for the altitude pressure sensor, and was looking for a picture - and was shocked to see a cn90 thread sans a photo!

Anyway, a bit of googling came up with this for the BMW E39 APS:
