I recently tried updating, and it said I was up to date from my update several months ago. Nothing new, I'm afraid.

I did a little playing around with the Connected App. I didn't find anything overly impressive. Facebook may have a few more options than before, but it still seems overly complicated and thus dangerous. I don't have a Twitter, so I can't play with it. Web Radio and Wiki seem about the same. Any changes seem minor. BMW still hasn't done something to make me want to buy a cradle - or even be bothered to take my phone out of my pocket. I don't spend many long periods in my car, so I suppose I'm harder to win over than someone who commutes 45+ minutes at a time.

All the apps in my iPhone have updated at least 3 times since IOS 6, and BMW comes out with nothing new, unbelievable and unacceptable

Clicked the URL and entered the VIN for my July 2012 production 650i. The latest version presented was UPD01006 (NOT UPD05011).

Anyone else encountering the same?

Mine too, I am almost positive Travel4Surf has NBT on his 5er which means he has the new Idrive, the update must only be for the 2014 6 series.

Do you know whether there is any way for us to upgrade to the new iDrive?

BTW, how's your 6WB Multifunction Instrument Display working out so far? I recall you mentioning that the entertainment track display was missing on the HUD after the upgrade. Does it really matter given that the new instrument display shows a larger view of the tracks anyway? In short, would you recommend the upgrade with Patryk?

You can retrofit the NBT but the issue is you have to put the old one back when you take your car into service. Your car has to have the original equipment when they do software upgrades. I don't know how hard the install is though, I am guessing it is something I wouldn't want to do on my own. Patryk could do it though.

If I didn't know about the track list/phone list on HUD I wouldn't regret the 6WB at all, but I do somewhat miss it. The track display on the 6WB is really nice, but I got used to not having to look down. The more I drive though, the more I like the 6wb. It really is great looking, especially in sport mode.

Is it worth the price? Not really sure about that, if I knew about the hud thing before ordering I wouldn't have done it. But if the hud thing never existed through coding, then I would have ordered it. Getting rid of the extra hud features is the only thing that makes me regret it a little. Hope that helps

Sounds like the NBT is more trouble than it is worth.

As for the 6WB, it truly is not as straight-forward as I had hoped. I really do like being able to see the tracks on the HUD, something I use everyday frequently. I was hoping you would say it really isn't a big deal given the larger track display. I will need to sleep on this one. Thanks for the info anyway.

Perhaps you can post more pictures of the track display in action. That's the only thing that is holding me back from pulling the trigger. The rest of the shortcomings I have absolutely no problem with. It is indeed very enticing to have the numbers get larger on the speedo as you speed up.

Another nice feature on the 6wb is that it displays a red line between the speed limit and how fast you are going. So if the speed limit is 35 and you are going 50, there will be a red line between the two numbers to make you realize how much over you are. Not sure if you have speed limit info in your region though. I will try to get more pics today and post them in the original thread.

Unfortunately speed limit display function is not available in my region. I do use the speed limiter frequently. It is indicated as a little green dot on my speedometer when set. Appreciate it if you can post photos of what the speed limiter display looks like on the 6WB.

Thanks in advance.

I finally updated my bmw apps yesterday. Twitter and Facebook went through some minor changes, you can now get it to read your whole feed or timeline at once, and navigation is a little better but nothing special. The web radio seems to be the same, didn't notice anything different. It will be nice though when pandora and the other new apps get upgraded so that they will be able to be opened from within the bmw app instead of having to open it through the phone. I have touch buttons 8,7 and 6 as facebook, twitter, and web radio. It will be nice to be able to add pandora and tunein to 5 and 4.

That's great. Was it UPD05011? Where did you download the bin file from?

Oh no, it wasn't the idrive update, it was just the bmw connected drive app update on the iphone. It's the bmw app that connects to the car and gives us the ability to use facebook, twitter, web radio and other apps through the idrive.

Got it. For a moment I thought you figured how to obtain UPD05011. Oh well. :sigh:

Once APPL releases iOS7, how long do you think it will be before BMW can provide useful integration. Especially considering there is still no lightning (iPhone 5) adapter available for the integrated phone kit in the center console.

Is the next version of the iDrive in the 650i coupé in the July builds?

I hope it will work with the latest version of Apple OS.

iDrive 4.2 (NBT) is available on April through June 2014 builds. NBT "version 2" (new ConnectedDrive functionality) is available starting with July builds.

It seems clear that pre-2014 6ers will not be able to upgrade to the latest version of NBT due to new hardware. Not sure about those of us caught in the in-between period.

I've pretty much given up. As long as I can make calls and have my messages read to me, I'm a happy camper. A Siri button integrated somehow would be nice though...

I only learned all this recently after switching from an iPhone to an Android-based phone. I was under the impression (based on a recent BMW announcement) that the new iDrive would soon support both phone types. After I started digging, it turned out to be far more complicated than I ever could have thought.

Just fyi, there is an app on cydia called background manager, it keeps any app running in the background.

So now instead of me having to open the arm rest, and go into the bmw connected drive app every time i want to use twitter or web radio, I can just click one of the preset numbers and it shows up. I have numbers 8,7,6,5 set up for facebook, twitter, calender, and web radio. I can just press any of those buttons at any time to get to them now without having to mess with the docked phone.

It also comes right back on when you start the car, so if I shut off the car with web radio playing it will still be on web radio when I start the car again.
