E39 (1997 - 2003)

slight jerking when accelerating from stop

My 2000 528 has started to have a jerking sensation when I begin accelerating from a stand-still. The car has 88K easy miles and the transmission fluid is full. Is this the early signs for a transmission rebuild?

^ Negative, why the hell would you start there? ...start with a fluid and filter change if it has never been changed in 88k.

What you`re experiencing could be symptomatic of "VANOS Stutter"....a common complaint with 6-cylinder BMWs equipped with VANOS.

There`s plenty of documentation on this, as per this example from the E46 Forum:
