Shade Tree Mechanic

I find a lot of good information on the xoutpost.com forums; just like here.

I almost always Google my question and get hits for here and for there.

Good Luck!

I posted my question a couple of days ago ('need help with 2000 X5 I just purchased.), unfortunately with no response.

If you have any clues to my questions, please feel free to chime in

yeah, I posted my questions on xoutpost yesterday and received tons of great advice. Most of my questions were answered on that forum.

Thanks

Post both sites and buy a Bentley manual and read it through before you have a problem. Peolple will scold you here for not having one and refer to the book even if they don't have one themselves. Beware of the dash fan questions with quick answers, that's my experience.

Just goes to show the wealth of information and expertise at this site. I, too, am new to the BMW world even though I spend six months a year in Germany.

I knew that BMW and Bentley were related, but I did not know that Bentley published the manual for the X5. I have ordered it from Amazon.

Now for the sunroof repair. When I bought my off lease 2005 Spring 2012 the non-BMW dealer had disabled the sunroof because it was broken. He had searched for parts but did not find them before I bought the SAV. Just a week or so ago I found the OEM kit online. It is at the house in the States. I return home in two weeks. Lots of work ahead. Battery is dead, too..... Next time there will be a trickle charger, if the crafty BMW engineers have not programmed the computer to disallow that.

My next question will be how to update the NAV/media panel to to get a touch screen GPS, USB and Bluetooth. The local BMW dealer says is canot be done. More research.

Drive on!
