Went into the boot expecting to find a tool kit...

Here's what I found.
The kit look like had been tampered with and the tow hook had been used and haphazardly put back into the pouch

Here is the kit in its entirety: a screwdriver and a tow hook. There are 2 empty slots in the pouch...I wonder what (at one time)went in those.

Here is the pouch as it probably was before someone messed with it...or at least as it should be.

and now placed where I think it goes but with no means of keeping it secure

Does this look similar to what you guys/gals have found? Am I missing something here?

that was the work of your friendly US customs agent... tax dollars hard at work protecting us citizens from foreign screwdrivers and European hazard triangles. all my kit was left with was the tire iron thingy. next time you need to secure the kit with a European Delivery, smuggling the contraband back into the US in your luggage.

look for the remainder of the kit on eBay.

That's all that was in my kit. Can't blame it on US Customs, I live in Canada. If there was no booze in it, Canada Customs would have left it alone.

And by the way, where is that First Aid Kit and the Safety Triangle that was mentioned in the manual?

First aid kit and safety triangle are only on European cars.

According to that web page, checking compatibility, it's not meant for the X1.

By the way, BMWUSA contacted me about my new-buyer comments and they indicated that the triangle and first aid kit are not provided for U.S. X1.

Been that way for years. However, it used to be that ED cars had to have them as required by law and if one was sharp enough to remember to remove them and pack in the suitcase, they would still have them when the car arrived at the dealer. Otherwise, they would mysteriously vanish.

Going to EU to pick up my X1 didn't fit my plans when I ordered. Mine was delivered to the dealership.
