Didn't find a thread discussing this topic.
BMW dealers need to let US customers know this. Customers will pay for additional maps if they move to another region after buying the navigation system. Additional maps are not free despite the huge upfront cost of the system. 2010 was the first year BMW went to using a hard drive instead of disc for the navigation maps. Here is why. Vehicle was purchased US spec and delivered to Germany, a 328i 2010 Sedan. Here's a look at how much I've spent. Nov 2009 $2100 for the navigation option and European maps "US maps will be free"~dealer selling quote Moved to the States Oct 2012 $278 for US maps $60 Labor -$30 on Labor after I complained $22.74 taxes ...and I lost the European maps. $331 total parts and labor today. Tell your friends if their interested in BMW. Here's the catch: Under warranty (50,000 miles) if only the European test maps are on your hard drive the US maps are still there and can be pulled up for only labor cost $50. If they are not the maps cost $278 and $60 for the labor. Last edited by jayroo; 10-03-2012 at 01:31 AM. |

Customers will pay for additional maps if they move after initially buying the navigation systemshould really read Customers will pay for additional maps if they move to another country after initially buying the navigation system |

Maps are online, download them. A few guys will look up and give you a code to install for $50-$60. Did mine this week-end, no problem.

Good to know. Was looking for another option like the dvd navigation owners have to just burn a disc with the latest maps on them. Oh well, too late. I'm good now. Hopefully this helps someone else.

@ Technic, You have any proof? I'm going off what my dealer in Europe told. So you have a 2009 with a hard drive? I got my car in 2009 even though it was 2010.
