Traded in 330 for new F30

Well, after much debate, I finally did it, I traded in my trusty 2006 330i for a new 2012 F 30. My 330 was a great car and will be missed. I like the new F30, it does feel different, it still handles like a BMW, but it is more sedan-like. The new technology is great, so is the much improved gas mileage. I'm still in the break-in period so I'm not pushing the car yet.

Curious if your car has the DHP. Congrats on the new F30!

Congrats on the car!

Do you prefer the steering on F30 or E90?

Which car is more fun to drive? (I'm considering both)

Yes!

One less E46 on the road works for me.

Could have been either. Was it a coupe/'vert or sedan? Most likely an E90 sedan or he would have said 330ci/330cic.

So your point is . . . I'm right? But yeah, I always forget there were E46s from 2006.

Congratulation to you!

I have traded in my E90 for a F30 and I think we made the right choice.

Would like to know whether you're experiencing any improvements in fuel economy between the old and new cars. I've got a 530i, which has the same engine as your 330i. Also, which F30 did you get?

I am about to do the exact same thing (likely taking delivery Saturday), and agonized over the decision. My 330 is just so much fun to drive that it was hard to imagine anything within the same stratosphere price-wise being near as much fun. Probably an irrational fear, I know, but a fear nonetheless.

I think I may be one of the few people who will actually welcome the more sedan-like feel. The one thing I always struggled with in my 330 was the size, particularly in the back seat, when driving people around. I was actually looking at the 5-series until I sat in both and really couldn't tell much of a difference. Definitely a different cockpit feel, but back seat was negligible. To me it was the perfect balance. I get to have the performance I want (I hope) and the passengers won't be so crammed.

We all grow up eventually, all have our needs shift from self to family. BMW knows this, that's why the F30 is bigger, longer, wider, softer, and more luxurious than the E46.

No, you do not.

You spend too much time in discussion forums listening to a bunch of used car owners tell you how much better their used cars are than new cars because that's what they need to believe and what they want you to believe.

We once were visited by a guy who was so full of himself with is oh-so special E46 M3 that he thought he'd cruise into the F30 forum and we'd all bow before him, oh-so much in awe of his "classic". Wake up. It's a used car.

You will enjoy an F30. It is your destiny. Fighting it is of no use.

I suppose so. The genius, I hope, lies in the fact that they also realize none of us want to grow up. Thus, we get the extra room, but still get the performance.

Ah sigh...the F30 is my wife's DD and our weekend get away car. I'm relegated to driving my E46 because it's a MT...but who's complaining? Not me But I do get to drive the F30 if I've been a good boy!

Plus since they sell many to the American market they realize Americans love their cheeseburgers and fries and have become supersized themselves....

Sorry for the delay, on vacation with the family and just got back...I traded in a 2006 e90 330i, I do miss the car, but...I actually like the f30 better in many respects. The steering on my e90, while electric, was generally better in terms of road feel and feedback. However, on the f30, change to sport mode and steering, suspension and throttle response is much improved, and I have not noticed that annoying throttle delay in the f 30. The 8 speed auto is light years ahead of the old steptronic; it's very smooth and never seems to hunt for the right gear, feels like a double clutch even though it's not. The f30 is bigger, more room inside, yet it doesn't feel bigger than my e90 when driving. I only have 300 miles on the car, can't wait to push it once break in is over.

Can you comment on the relative fuel efficiency of the two cars? Even with only 300 miles, does it appear that the new car is meaningfully more efficient?

Gas mileage is much better in the F30, I'm getting about 29 mpg, 60 / 40 split between city and highway. My e90 avergaged 21-22 and I always used premium fuel in the 330. Apparently, you only need to use mid grade fuel in f30.

www.bmwusa.com shows that BMW recommends premium fuel for the N20. So does the EPA website www.fueleconomy.gov
