Just want to chime in with my experience. I picked up my car (MY 2013 335i xDrive) this past week and drove it from PCD back home. It was about 700Miles. There was no steering wheel vibration whatsoever. The steering was dead straight. I traveled at no more than 83mph to keep it safe during the break-in period. I did notice one thing though, At higher speeds the car has a small shudder. I am convinced that it is due to the Run Flat Tires. Even though these are 3rd generation (i think) run flats, they still haven't perfected the comfort you get with the non-run flats. I have driven my friends bimmer with and though the run flats and saw the difference immediately. I am not sure if that's what some users are experiencing. Here is a quick run down of my setup. I have dynamic handling and its a sports line with paddle shifter so it has sport automatic 8-speed tranny. 18inch stock sport wheels with ContiSport All season tires and its xdrive. So in my judgement, I have no issues with the car or the steering wheel. If users are experiencing something other than this then it sure is an issue. It could be as minor as an adjustment or refinement but its still an issue as long as its noticeable.

Really? Because your very first post in the thread was directly in response to someone who said, "I've been experiencing a slight steering wheel vibration from 40-60mph in my new 328i. You can feel the small vibration with your hands on the wheel"

to which you promptly replied,

"There is no fix to this problem, soooo many F30's have this problem. "

It's a visual vibration. The feeling is so minute it's hard to tell if it's road feel or the actual problem you are feeling, but there is a visual shake in the steering wheel between 40 and 60. I have had numerous bmw's in the past and none have ever had a steering wheel that shook. I personally find it hard to feel the vibration. Other cases might be more severe.

And yes, a ton of F30's have the problem.

^ and you know you have it when you are going 50, take your hands off the wheel and your steering wheel is not dead steady, it looks like a vibrator lol.

I understand your point, but one would think vibration is something simple that should be caught by QC. The fuel pump issue is impossible to detect until failure, which probalbly never happened on a test run at the factory.

Mine is slight, but I can definitely feel it in the wheel. I don't typically drive with a death grip on the wheel so perhaps that's why I can feel it. It's very slight, but I always know when I am approaching 50mph. Maybe BMW should spin the issue as a passive safety feature? I can see it now..."Now introducing speed warning vibrator"

I had a vibration problem that came up at about 40,000-50,000 miles on a 4 Runner quite a few years ago. Dealer couldn't find the problem and neither could Goodyear. I was just discussed at that point and I sold the 4 runner.
cheers

There are a lot more '12's on the street than '13's at this point so I think it's too early to tell.

Ok, I just heard from my SA who has had my car since Fri for the steering issue. I gave him the printout of the bulletin that was posted here. He said even using that bulletin that my wheel is still vibrating and that they emailed their bmw rep for further help.

FOLLOW UP: My SA just emailed me again saying that BMW is aware of the issue and is looking into to it, but I can go ahead and pick my car up since they can't figure it out and they are waiting on BMW to issue a fix.

I just got my 2013 back from my dealer because I was having this issue. I thought it would work itself out after the initial break-in period. When they brought me the loaner, the loaner vehicle had the same problem. I called the dealer and told them and asked if this was a repeated problem - I just thought it was odd that the loaner was doing it too. They told me no. This has me very concerned - I'll keep everyone posted if they actually fixed the problem once I drive my vehicle.

Just drove home and the steering wheel is still shaking, just not as bad. Apparently they balanced the tires. I'm sending them an email with the BMW link that someone previously posted so they can look this issue up. I can tell you right now, I will be the worst nightmare until this is rectified. I didn't order and wait for 2 months to get a car that the steering wheel shakes. I hope they'll be able to get this rectified soon. I'll keep you all posted.

Boy, oh boy. I'm nervous about this. I have a 130 mile drive home from the dealer when I take delivery, so I guess I'll know right away if I'm affected. My build date is 9/24... I sure hope they've got this figured out in Munich.

Why don't you take it for a test drive and get up to the MPH range where the vibration occurs. If it vibrates don't take delivery.

Thats tough for 2 reasons, A, we have been waiting so long for for these cars, and B, since so many cars have them its not like you can just re order and be guaranteed you wont get the issue again. In all honesty the problem is not that bad where it makes the car undribeavle and its hard to feel, its just that you dont expect a 50k car;s steering wheel to vibrate.

Then why are you replacing yours? I haven't gone back to review your early posts but IIRC you were upset - as I would be.

I have a bit of a unique situation going.... We'll see what happens. I pretty much need to come home with a new car on the day I take delivery, come hell or high water.

Man this is one depressing thread. I should have the car in a week's time, lets just say I will be one pissed off customer if this issue is there. I don't have the time to dick around with the dealer every other week. You get a 50k vehicle you want it to at the very least do the obvious things very well and being vibration free is one of those things.

Windsor, you and I are figuratively and literally in the same boat. I will be sofa king annoyed if I have the SWI (steering wheel issue). Good luck to us both.
