Software Update

I just had my F30 in service to repair a minor issue with the power windows, and they told me they fixed it by doing a major software update that updates lots of different things on the car. So far I've noticed two differences from this update:

1. The ASS is operating very smoothly with less 'shudder'

2. When the 'kick-trunk' feature is used, the rear lights blink three times quickly just before the trunk opens

Anyone else had this done? (mine was an early build 2012, picked it up end of Feb)

Hmmm, no. Just picked-up my 2013 335 yesterday. I had asked my CA to look into a software upgrade that would put the ASS system into a "last state" condition, meaning it would stay off if I switched it off. When I asked if this update was done she said she had checked and was told that update was not yet available. Hmmm?

Is this the software update you can download off of BMW's website or no?

She either lied or she is uninformed about her product.

Uninformed. I was told when I picked my 328 that I was the first person in Fort lauderdale to request the ASS setting change. And as a result the techs had not been aware. They also refused to do it saying I had to take delivery and then bring it back because BMW was committed to the Eco savings.

My order was placed at Vista in Pompano Beach. I hope they know about the update.

Took delivery of my 328i early august and ASS Update was performed pre-delivery. Again, your dealer is most likely blowing smoke. Remember, BMW may prefer we call them CA's but in the end, they are still car salesmen.

No... that update is just to update Bluetooth compatibility when new phones are released.

If you have ASS turned off when you are driving, it should remember your selection and ASS should be turned off next time you start the car (unless you switch to Eco Pro, then ASS will re-engage). If ASS defaults to the on selection every time you start your car, then it hasn't been recoded. I asked to have mine recoded before delivery, but they missed something because it still defaults to on. I'll try to get it changed next time I go in for service.

I took delivery of my 335i Last Thursday. I had asked my CA to have this programming change loaded at the VPC - it was NOT done. So I took it back to the dealership on Wednesday this week because it was driving me nuts. The Service Advisor said no problem we'll update it.

FWIW: They are also realigning my trunk lid (it was below the top of the quarter panel and pushed forward on the driver's side) and trying to figure-out how to fix the headrest on the passenger side - it will not go down all the way. They think they can fix the trunk lid, they DON'T think they can fix the headrest.??

What is a SA but a clerk trained to be the dealer's public face?

No mechanics, they know enough to be foolish or 'creative' from time to time.

Actually, the one that is incorrectly set is your driver's headrest. Headrests are not supposed to go all the way down... that's a new crash regulation.

There was a safety recall this year (I think) just to get the headrests fixed at a specific extended position to meet the regulation.
