I'm thinking of buying a 5 series, what should I expect?

Hello,

I've been entertaining the idea of buying a 2004 to 2006 BMW 5 series, either the 545 or 550.

What should a prepare myself with?

I currently own a 330ci that I do all the work on myself, so I'm not affraid to get in there and work on them myself.

I don't know much about the 5 series. Any engine specific troubles or things I will need to be aware of?

I think you'll love the way it drives for sure. The V8 sounds great too. search for oil leaks, coolant leaks and transmission issues on this forum and read for a good hour. The good thing for you is that oil and coolant leaks are really cheap fixes if you do all the work yourself. The transmission is another story.....

I had two 330cic verts before buying the 550i. More room, fast as heck, and great seats. Be sure to put stiff tires on it if you worry about too cushy of a ride. I had Generals, loved them, now have Continental DWS which are too soft. I have had my 550i for close to four years, not one problem. Good luck.
