Oil leaking
I did my oil change 2 months ago and i drove 4000 miles already and the check engine oil light came on. So i check it and the oil is low, so i'm wondering if my oil is leaking cause i haven't seen oil spots on my driveway

Typical problem with BMW, crank-case ventilator valve is clogged or torn, reverse pressure on crank so engine burns oil faster than normal. Short trips and extended oil change contribute to the problem, as well as BMW engine is running very hot.

Jraww: Locate the damaged components. Buy them. Fit them.

BMW's 'standard' for E53 X5s is pretty broad/vague... If you 'used' a couple of quarts in 4k miles, BMW would suggest that that is 'normal', 'within consumption specs', fwiw. Where you drive is a fairly temperate climate, so I sort of doubt the CCV situ is the main problem, imo, though the CCV system can become clogged over time, in these cars, regardless of climate. And, that oil light comes on at ~1 1/2 to 2 quarts low, which again, is not unheard of consumption in older E53s. GL, mD

You need to make sure it's the CCV first, some BMW shops (dealer or indy) use manometer to test. I assume you have no compression problem on your engine, thi sone will show as blue smoke out of tail pipe for sure (and less common unless you beat up on your car).
You can search for "CCV" here or Google it, many people gone through that burning oil problems and almost always it's clogged or torn diagphram of CCV. |
