iPhone 6 - iOS 8 - No Messages in iDrive

I just paired my iPhone 6 with my iDrive via Bluetooth. Everything seems to be working fine but I'm not getting the Messages option in the Office or in the Telephone menu. Just contacts. I have the phone set up with Message Notifications on, and display on lock screen on. In iDrive setup I have Office checked in Bluetooth Configuration. In Phone configuration both Phone and Audio are checked. Anyone else having issues? Thanks

No issue here. Did you choose "Telephone 1" or "Telephone 2" in iDrive when setting up your iPhone 6? I picked "Telephone 2".

At which screen does it give you this option? My choices on the configure phone screen were: "Telephone", "Audio" and "Additional Telephone" (this last one I'm not positive it exactly right I'm not with the car right now.) I chose all the first two and then added the third and still no luck.

Perhaps we have different versions of iDrive software? When i put in the last 7 digit of my VIN on bmw.com/update, i get a list of updates. For some reason, i am unable to install the latest update UPD05021 (TN-2.34.1). I could only install the previous update UDP05014 (MN-2.18.2, TN-2.18.5). iDrive does not recognize the thumbdrive with the latest update as an update.

The OP did set it up that way.

Um sorry no, I didn't know about the show notification switch buried in the Bluetooth settings.

What I had done was

Notifications, Messages, Allow Notifications, On
and
Notifications, Messages, Show on lock Screen, On

I will test if this fixes it when I get to my car later tonight and will post the results.

Thanks

I think it will work now, that's the trick I always forget when setting up a new iPhone.

I want to test myself but all my contacts have started using WhatsApp now and I don't get that many texts!

Yep that worked. Ktula, sr5959 really appreciate the help. Sorry my original post was overly vague. Thank you both.

iPhone 6 - iOS 8 - No Messages in iDrive

So I've got messages set to banners, allow on lock screen and 5 most recent.

Bluetooth setting has messages ON. Tried to unpaid and repair a couple of times.

Tried it with messages app closed and cleared from memory. Any other tips?

I never had an issue with my Moto x.

Set notifications to Alert, not banners.

I realize that your problem is solved, but something you should know is this:

Once you start using Siri for reading texts and sending emails, you leave the iDrive system like a hot potato. And now that Siri has a completely hands-free feature you don't even have to push a button now to initiate it.

Siri can do Weather, sports scores, appointments, calendars, movie times, and almost anything else you can imagine. It has just been updated and iOS 8 to an unbelievably accurate level. Bottom line, start focusing on Siri and leave the iDrive system behind.

Are you guys getting new messages, or is it syncing your messages inbox? I mean, I can't seem to get either to work, but there is a difference.

^^^

I've never had iDrive sync my text inbox. It only displays new messages received after you've started the car and are then deleted when the car is switched off. I was under the impression that is just how iDrive is supposed to work and it won't sync your entire inbox.

I just hung up with the BMW tech support guys, and they agree -- it won't sync your entire inbox, only new messages. Apple has not integrated the MAP protocol, so there are a ton of issues. With my X, it would sync everything. The tech recommended the exact same steps that have been mentioned here, nothing different.

He said that he's expecting a huge update early in October to deal with all this (specifically the iPhone), because a lot of iPhone 6 owners can't even make calls. He expects that it will address a lot of the issues.

You all probably know this, but www.bmw.com/update has the most recent software available.

There is an article on CNN's main page that claims several customers are having issues with iPhone 6's Bluetooth connectivity with their cars. I am not sure how much of that is because of actual issues with the phone versus not setting it up properly.

I get the feeling there's a lot more issues with Bluetooth on the NBT iDrive than on my 2012 version which is working very well with my iPhone 6.

I was having issues with iDrive and my iPhone 6 for a day where I wasn't getting text notifications and solved it by doing a hard reboot of the phone. For those that don't know, you do this periodically to clear up the cobwebs, resets things and can clear up any issues.

Press and hold the home button and the backlight button at the same time and don't let go until you see the screen go black and the white Apple appear. This solved the notification issue for me.

So would you recommend purchasing advanced bluetooth/usb on a new vehicle or is it unnecessary?
