Drive it like you stole it OR follow the instructions in the manual. Your choice.

I just drove my car normally from day one including the occasional WOT.

No worries.

Since my car had 95 miles on it I figured I'd follow the CA input - no jack rabbit starts, easy on the breaks, no steady state long distance driving for the first 1000 miles. Also, keep the RPMs below 4K. This is what I did.

There is a very serious approach to breaking in vehicles nowadays. It is "Almost" drive it like you stole it.

You let the engine warm up and oil circulate for 10-15 minutes. You then find a nice secluded straight away and use sport mode like this.

Have the SAV in 2 gear and then do a WOT (wide open throttle) let off the gas and let the engine brake to normal speeds, then do it again in third, and again in fourth if you can. No more than three times in a day and NOT from a dead start or cold engine.

This is said to help "seat" the rings on the pistons evenly and help reduce oil use later.

Up to you, but I didnt do it on my first X3 and it would gulp a quart after a long road trip. I did do it on my )* X3 and I changed oil like normal with no discernible consumption at 5k intervals.

I guess, if you're going to ask the question, then you deserve the answer.
