I have the same problem with new dealer installed blades too. It's embarrassing.

What helps is not to spray the windshield washer fluid on the glass. Just let the rain get on the windshield and then turn on the wipers.

I too have found them to be very loud. I found if you keep the glass clean, and wipe the blades down as well with window cleaner it helps. I asked the dealer, they changed the wipers same thing when they became dirty.

Just replaced my noisy ass blades with Trico's and must say they are quiet as can be... I did it last weekend and have only used them a couple times but what a difference!

I have brand new Bosch Icons and get a horrible loud snapping sound when the wipers are on their way back down.

I have tried just about everything to get this to stop.
- cleaned the crap out of my windshield
- cleaned the blades
- tried silicone lube on the blades
- tried rainx on the windshield
- tried waxing the windshield

Nothing seems to work. I live in BC and we get a lot of rain...so this is driving me nuts.

You likely have crap on your blades. Have you wiped them down with rubbing alcohol? Mine never make a noise unless there is crap on the windshield or the wipers are worn out.

The noise is usually an indication that the wipers are worn. I had the same issue. The dealer replaced them, and now they are very quiet.

Noisey Wipers

I have a 2010 118D and having serious issues with my front wipers as per most of you guys in here.

The wiper blades were replaced six weeks ago with BMW supplied/approved replacements.

The new blades now make scraping noise on the lower 2inch of the screen when they rebound. I have since tried a couple pf other manufacturers blades and all make the same scraping noise on the lower 2inches of the screen when used in rain. The noise is that irritating I have to have the stereo on stupid load which is not a solution.

Bmw have since had my car in 7 times now to fix the problem.
Fixes include:

Wiper lubrication;
Wiper arm adjustment;
Wiper angle adjustment;
Silicon compound on the windscreen;

I tested my old wipers and they do not make any scraping noise at the bottom of the screen on the rebound apart from mid screen (because they are worn out).

Windscreen is clean, wipers are clean...even as I drove home from the garage the noise started.

Mine do the same 04 545i.I have tried all the same stuff you guys have.Many different brand blades also.I also get a trailing haze or fog behind the wiper.Looking at the wiper it looks to press down on the glass much harder than my wife's 2010 Camry.Its sitting next to my BMW and wipes perfectly so thought I would compare.The rubber edge on the BMW folds over so far when wiping not only the edge but the side of the rubber is touching.??

I never thought to check of the edge of the wiper is touching the screen as well. I will investigate again in the morning and get soaked again. BMW really need to investigate these wiper issues. I thought I was the only one!

Do you guys get the wiper at the dealer only?

I was browsing at Walmart and saw RainX Lat and Bosch have fitments under the sized catalog. Will those fit?
Mine is old, has chunks missing from it and would make a line of water. But its dead quiet though. I just refused to go to dealer.

I get them from the dealer - they are actually about the same if not less than at the store. I paid $24 (after my BMW discount) for a set of wiper blades.
