F10 European Headlight Switch to enable rear fogs.
Recenlty purchased from ECS Tuning the European Headlight Switch that enables the rear fog lamps. The lamps are already installed in US spec F10 from the factory, but the lamp switch is missing the rear fog button.
ECS advertisies on their website "Plug and Play without coding." I installed the Euro Swithch and fogs and all light functions work except rear tail lights are always on, even during day. Didn't notice until I had them installed for over a month. I called ECS who said I need to have the software on my F!0 recoded. BMW says this will cost $150 - $250 depending on my current software level. I told ECS their website says Plug and Play - No coding necessary. I said I wanted to return the switch and they said I had installed it and it was over 30 days so they would not take back. My guess is that ECS website is correct and they were wrong when I called them that I needed to update my software. If that's the case then the switch may be defective apprently without a warranty. Anybody have US spec car with experience with the European Headlight Switch for the F10 who may have some insight to my problem? |

I had it in my car. Worked just fine, though mine was a 2012.
I just ordered the same type of switch for my M5, though it only has the rear fog button since the M cars don't have front fogs. Which part number did you order? 61319192744?

I thought BMW started a few years ago keeping the rear taillights on when the Daytime Running Lights were on? Try disabling the DRLs and see if the rear taillights go off.

Here in Canada DRLs are mandatory and can't be turned off. Tails are always on as a result.

I installed my european light switch about 6 months ago and I haven't had any issues. Your tail lights been on is part of the DRL's and can be turn off by coding.

Thanks for the follow up.
When I go into the menu and I turn off the DRL option, the tail lights still stay on. Did you need to code or did you just leave your tail lights on? Last edited by Bimmer 535xi; 09-27-2012 at 08:27 AM. |

I am curious if the old switch from the 550i will work (obviously with the exception of the front fog button).

It will. I just decided to order the correct switch so I did not have a non-functional button.

I believe they are the two lights closest to the licence plate.
MB and Audi used to only have the drivers side come on.
