E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135. |

Adaptive Headlight PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!
I just purchased a 2008 BMW 128i convertible and the symbol ( which turned out to be ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHT MALFUNCTION ) was lit on the dash.
When you looked head-on at the headlights one of the smaller circled lights was out. The dealership paid to get it fixed but now that whole headlight is yellow like and the other headlight has more of a fluorescent appearance. It just looks completely different when you have the lights on, they clearly look like two different types. Is the color normal or do I have two different headlights now? I was told* ( now they could have been BS-ing me considering I have no idea what any of this is, but I was told that the light on the right ( photo ) was something completely different and the light on the left ( being the one they replaced ) is what the light is suppose to look like. Either way, it looks terrible having two different lights, and I have to get this fixed. Thankyou! Cecilia Last edited by cecibar; 09-25-2012 at 09:56 AM. |

Yup... the one on the left is what it's supposed to look like. The "Corona Rings" or "Angel Eyes". Looks like the previous owner installed different coloured angel eye bulbs in his/her car (probably his, honestly).
Your choices? Well, either replace the bulb in the right headlight with the original spec... or figure out which aftermarket unit they have in the right one and replace the left... or replace both with custom bulbs. It's just the bulbs though... no need to replace the entire unit. http://www.burgertuning.com/BMW_LED_angel_eyes.html

The passenger side is the stock halogen bulb and the driver side has the LED angel eye bulb. To be honest, most guys do prefer the LED angel eye look as it does emit a white light rather than yellow. You would have to purchase a pair of new LED angel eyes to make sure that both sides match in color.
I'd recommend that you check out the 6W LED Angel Eye bulbs by City Vision Lighting. The City Vision LED Angel Eyes feature a 6 watt 6000K pure white LED bulb for a brilliant white light that looks classy on any model BMW. They are a breeze to install, and require no special tools, and does not require removal of your headlight. You can definitely do this install yourself and it will take no more than 15-20 minutes total. Here's a video of the bulbs on our project 135i for you to check out!

WORD OF CAUTION. The reason the fault was thrown in the first place was due to moisture getting into the light and shorting out the electronics. This was most likely due to the access cover not being replaced correctly after installing the after market lights. And it is an easy thing to mess up one that side do the car. If you decide to do it I recommend LUX lights and to be careful. Next time it won't be covered under warranty.
Good luck and great car. |
