Wheel and Tyre Size

Hi All,

This is my first post, I have just got a BMW 316i SE 4 doors. When inspecting the tyres I notuiced that the front and rear are as follows:

Front: 245-45-17
Rear: 225-40-17

Is this correct as I thought the back should be wider and low profile. I have the original BMW alloys that you see in the Sports 316, 320 etc.

The ride is not bad and no problems....any help will be perfect.

Me personally perfer wider wheels at the back but this is my first BMW so dont know.

Thank you

The wide tires should be on the back. Sounds like the previous owner was attempted to create oversteer.

When swapping the tires, I'd make sure the wider tires are mounted to the wider wheels.

Thank you for your help, I though the same.

So will it be okay for me to just swap them over. This would mean 225-40-17 at frot and 245-45-17 at the back.

Does its mater if the back has slight more profile then the front,

Thank you

Factory staggered 17" sizes were:
225-45-17 and 245-40-17. Are you sure that's not what you have?

If you have what you originally mentioned, the one tire is shorter than stock, and the other taller. I'd still rather have the 245 on the back, but check to make sure the tall tire doesn't rub the fender. That maybe why the previous owner swapped them before selling the car.
