Soft Close Doors Being Added to Premium and Convenience Packages Starting 10/2012

BMW X5

Starting this October, option 323 Soft Close Doors will be added to the Premium and Convenience Packages on all MY2013 X5 models and the MY2012 X5 xDrive35d. The cost of the packages will increased by $275 with the new addition.

You will still be able to get Soft Close Doors as a standalone option with the $600 price remaining the same. If you have been looking to get soft close doors and the premium/convenience package, this change saves you 55% of the price.

New ordering codes exist for the new packages including ZCV becoming ZC3 and ZPP becoming ZP2.

September production is not changed with all these changes starting with October production.

Glad I was able to get mine without. I don't really see the point/benefit of these. And I think they'd be one of the first things to have problems with later on. If you couldn't hear the motors, it might be more appealing I guess. Just not my thing.

Anyone have an idea of how many X5's are sold without the Premium Package?

I almost ordered mine without it. IMO there is nothing in that package that is a must have, more of nice to haves that I can install for far less money than $3500. that's 35 garmins

Agreed.

When I traded the 2010 for the 2012 I was forced to get the comfort access...

These things are such marginal features that can cause huge costs later on when they fail. Both function only duiring the 15-30 seconds when I reach the car, sit and start it.. fractions of a percent of the time I am using it.

IMO

Very low, I bet. ZPP is a must have.

Soft Close doors are cool, but a gimmick none the less. I'd take them if they were that cheap.

Possible use for the soft close doors - Not waking up the sleeping baby that you successfully got into the car in the first place.

I drive cars with and without them all the time. Regardless, I slam the doors shut.

I like auto wipers, auto headlights, auto climate control... but I prefer manual doors.

I kind of like

It's useful in tight space and don't have enough space to open the door wide enough- just nudge with two fingers.
Also, Just pull the door inwards when backing out the drive way and it should close for those open door driving with out having to stop..
I forgot slamming doors for the past 6months!

Stealth price increase. I also think BMW increased convenience plan by $100 awhile ago from 3500 to 3600.

Due to inflation, they could just increase the price. Everything else goes up in price due to inflation. The dollar just doesn't buy same amount of stuff it did a year ago (that reminds me to ask for cost of living salary adjustment ).
So, we should give BMW a credit for throwing a bone.

I don't have or need this option but the one good reason would be that you never have to ask the kids to reopen and shut the doors again I guess. Wonder how that works should someone gets their fingers in the way, talk about freak out.

i have soft close on my 12 ah7, and have to say I think it's probably the most pointless technology Ive seen on car....whatever the cost is, i'd rather have a minibar and fold down tables in the back!!

Mine started production yesterday. The 800 number says production will be completed on 10/2. I assume it should therefore not have the soft close doors?

Never assume. The doors will be in a package. And will be about 250. A lot better price than when they were an option.

I'm guessing most of you guys don't have small children.
Soft close doors are a Godsend when you have young kids.
I have them on my 750Li and never have to get out and slam the door for my kids.
Don't have them on the X5 and it's a PITA!

FWIW, I've had several 7-series with soft close doors since they were introduced in 2003, and have never experienced a motor failure (knock on wood).

I'm not disputing OP.

I'm asking if my car will be considered an October build since it started production September 21 and is scheduled to finish production on October 2. I am assuming that the date it starts production controls and that it will thus not have soft close doors. But, that is a guess.
