F10 M-Sport Foglight Question - 55W HIDs?

Hey everyone-

So I know some people have had issues with putting 35W bulbs in there, etc.
But if matched to 55W, can I just throw HIDs in there?
I am ordering 5 pairs of 55W HIDs for some buddies & myself(other car) online from DDMTuning.com this week, and wondering if they will for for the MSport fogs which are also rated at 55W?

I might upgrade the housings later on but for now, they offer discounts on purchasing multiple kits so I wanted to pick it up at the same time if it will work without causing any issues or burning out that module that people refer to.

Link to HIDs in question-

Would I need one of these for the F10?
http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/Er...minator-3-PAIR

The HID kits themselves are great, I have 2 sets of my project car (lowbeam & fogs) and several of my other friends are running them too with no issues at all over the years. The question here is how the F10 will react to the installation of these.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Aaron

the wattage is the same for both halogen & hid kit. The only possible issue is how sensitive the BMW electronic module is and the potential failure of the LCM. If dealer traces the failure to the hid kit, you are looking at about $1000 repair cost.

Thanks buddy, I knew that I had to keep it 55w regardless, just didnt know how sensitive the BMW electronics would be to something like this. If anyone has had any experience with this, or know a way to test this without damaging the LCM, please chime in. Id rather not risk $1000 for better lighting!

So has anyone done this yet? Still looking to fit 55W HIDs into the stock MSport fog plugs. Will go projector later but anyone have issues with 55w HID affecting LCM yet?

I'll be putting in the 35w DDM hid's whenever they show up from china. I would avoid the 55w unit due to the risk of the extra heat melting the small housing.

The problem with the HID is not so much the temp. or the wattage but the length of the bulb. An HID retrofit bulb is generally longer in length thus it is closer to the lens than the halogen bulb.

Tried it with 35W H11 fogs last night and it kept flickering then I got a foglight malfunction error. Took it out and put it back to stock, error went away. Gonna try with 55W this next weekend and see what happens. If that doest work either Im just gonna go with GP Thunders.

Did you get the ddm tuning kit plus the error canceller cables? Still flickered?

I ordered my kit with two pairs of resistor cables so in case one cable wasn't enough i'll double it up to prevent the flickering. Others have had success with the ddm tuning kit on the other F10 forum.

Yeah, you need a load resister with the 35W.
