2000 740il issues! help!

hello i am a master automotive technician. i have recently put a used engine in a 2000 740il 4.4. I have everything installed correctly. the problem i am having is it is throwing a 33 and 34 code which is for bank 1 and bank 2 vanos problems. the vehicle will start and idle pretty smooth but as soon as you try to give it gas you can hear the throttle body open but it will not accelerate. the engine gets very warm like it is running too lean. i cleaned the mass air flow and it seemed to help the issue for a little bit but now its back to no acceleration. i have not messed with these 4.4s much so any advice would be great! thanks zack.

could be a blocked Cat, try removing the 02s before the cats and see if it accelerates. The point being, give your exhaust somewhere to go if it can't get past the cats.
