New 530i, stolen badge sticker?

Hi guys, new poster, just picked up an '03 530i with 94k miles on it a few weeks ago. Love the car so far even though I had to invest $115 and a few hours into putting in a new window regulator in week one and have put in a couple hundred more since then for parts (Pre-cat O2 sensors, spark plugs, air filters, valve cover gasket, vanos gasket and vanos seals from beisan). Knew next to nothing about BMW's up to a month ago other than having always admired the styling and heard lots of praise for performance.

Here's my new obsession: http://postimage.org/image/b3b4ddq6j/

Have been lurking around and reading the wealth of info here which has helped me figure out what steps to take first and some fixes (including the window regulator replacement.) Big thanks to everyone that contributes their time and knowledge, this is really an excellent source for info and makes owning a car like this a hundred times more enjoyable.

Noticed that the BMW badge on the hood of the car was missing today, in reality the badge is still there but it looks the color has been peeled off and the chrome colored badge with contours of the design and an adhesive substance over the whole thing as remained.

Could this just have happened by itself overnight or is this a case of vandalism? Can't pinpoint when exactly this happened but up to a few days ago i was touching up some paint in the area and the badge seemed to be in good shape aside from normal weathering, no peeling or anything.

I wouldn't sweat the badge, just get a new one for $20. I can't imagine a vandal would so cleanly strip the badge of it paint like that. Congrats on joining the BMW family!

Thanks for the welcome, yeah OEM shipped today even though from a distance the plain chrome piece wasn't half bad looking.

Thought about getting some black or grey aftermarket piece to go with the Oxford green but decided to stay with the original look. I had no idea they could peel off like that either

Btw, just looking at the body in that picture would you guys recommend a wet sand and buff or should I just skip the sanding and do a few rounds of buffing and polishing with an orbital? ( used dr. Colorchip for some chips near the grille area and a few scratches, would like to blend them in well and give a nice polish to the body)

I would probably just hit it with polish. When I removed mine there was mostly just dirt, so I gave it a quick polish and then a light wax.

Also when you remove the roundel, I found it really good to use one of those GPS suction cups. But you might not be able to get a good seal, so it might be easier to pull from the two holes with some needle nose pliers or something

I had the same thing happen to me when I took my car through a touchless car wash. Easy to replace - $25 for the emblem and grommets. Snaps right in.
