pump noise on 13 X5 diesel

Its intermittent but mostly when driving through town and what appears to be a pump
sound noticed under passenger side of vehicle. Not a fuel pump sound, louder.

It might be trigger by braking ???? Has also done it when driving through parking
lots and have to ride the brake a little.

Does the 13 X5 have a an air pump on some things,

pump noise on 13 X5 diesel

I experience this as well in my wife's 2013 35d. Very random and a bit confusing. She has the comfort seats and I swear it's the passenger seat inflating some of its support bladders. I can sometimes reach over and press some of the seat controls and the sound goes away. Hate to take it to dealer because I can't reproduce the sound and doubt I would be lucky enough for it to happen while in for service.

Reason I was thinking toward braking and parking lot humps. Is that it may jar the (whatever) and cause it
to come on. Yesterday I was going about 30, and here comes that noise, turned on a
side street to see if could place. It went off before got stopped

Its definitely some kind of pump. But like you say getting it to happen with a customer service rep listening.

Pump associated with DEF?

It came on today while in a friends driveway. We looked under the passenger side and nothing appears
visible. You see the exhaust and some little muffler. Unless its under the insulated area.
Did not get the hood open in time before went off. Its under that passenger
compartment front somewhere. Not in the seat area, felt all around while was going off and did
not feel to be a seat pump

not sure what the x35d is like underneath but if its anything like the 335 then it would be concealed. Theres a lot more under the floor of the 335d than you would think unless you pull off the panels

We have a DEF Pump, Fuel Transfer Pump, but these are in the rear area.

I'm wondering if the sports seats air compressor is somehow turning on, perhaps there is a memory setting it is trying to maintain?

There are a lot of automated pumps and motors on these cars so without more details it is hard to say, but if it is under or around the passenger front seat, I'd vote for the seat air compressor running for some odd reason. Easy to disconnect and see if that eliminates the noise. If not it is something else?

Can't say I've heard anything like what is being described.

It sure is loud. Not like the air bladder sound when lumbar inflated. I don't have 3 rd roll seating. Not a whine like fuel pump.
It's about as loud as a battery tire pump compressor . Does the def pump sound like a compressor

Was the source of this noise found. I, at random times, hear a compressor-like noise coming from what seems to be the rear of the vehicle. I'm not sure what it is. If it comes on, it's when I start the vehicle, but it doesn't always come on. For the first time ever, it came on this weekend, after I arrived at my destination, and became stationary after parking.

Its coming from the passenger side front. It gets loud sometimes, but its random when it comes on.

Still making the noise at random times. Went by dealer, said if could get it there while
making the noise would help ?

Does the X5 have a self leveling rear suspension? My E39 touring does and makes exactly the sound described when inflating the suspension air springs.

It does not have the 3rd row seating. Looking on the build sheet, do not see
any mention of self level suspension. The build sheet also said it has adaptive
drive and window sticker does not show. So could it have self level and not
be put on a build sheet.

You sure it's not the pump from the passive DEF tank filling the active tank?

Crawled under a couple of time while was going off. Alot a shielding under those SUV's.
If you're driving through the grocery or shopping center lot, people turn and stare. One
guys asked "what didn't shut off' when I parked.

Is the DEF pump on the passenger side around passenger seating area.
