Map Update Activation Code

Wondering if anyone has seen anything in any modules where one can remove the requirement for entering an activation code for the latest maps.

Have obtained the latest maps (~30Gigs of data) and the thing is asking for an "Activation Code".

Thanks in advance...

Not possible. This is required to activate. Similar to Windows or Apple software, you need to pay for activation code.

How do I know what the latest maps version is so I can compare to my car's version (2012 F30, build date of Dec 2011)? Thanks.

Right now, 2012 North American Premium is the latest available for CIC. The 2013 version is due out any day now though, so I would not update until 2013 is released. Then, you can buy the FSC Code for it for $50. Do not go to the Dealer, or it $300 - $400.

Oh ok. Thanks for the info. Do they give you a change log? Also, where can I download it when it comes out and where do I purchase the code from?

I have never seen a change log.

The maps are huge. For regular HU_CIC, it's 3 each 8 Gb DVD's (24 Gb), and for the new HU_NBT, it is 6 each DVD (48Gb).

In the past, you could order them from your dealer for only $10, because basically all you were paying for is the medium itself (DVD platter cost's) and not the actual Content, as the Content cost is in the FSC Code. BMW got wind of what was going on and killed the DVD Sales, so I am not sure what to expect this year.

That said, I have a source, and I believe I will have the HU_CIC DVD images very soon, and I will make them available.

For FSC Code, you want to contact sieras5 (Sergej):

He just gave you the program to read your 001B FSC file, SWID Reader. To use it, Copy it to your existing C:\EDIABAS\Bin folder and run it.

That is why. It will only run on 32-Bit OS. You can try running it virtualized in XP Mode.

Sorry, I don't know, as I have not tried it. I know though people are running E-Sys on Mac OS with XP virtualized, so it must be possible with a virtual LAN port.

The car does not have a DHCP server; so it does not assign an IP to the computer. Both the computer and the car will go into DHCP fallback mode, each assigning themselves a random class-B address so that they can talk to each other. This can take up to 60 seconds, so you have to wait until the computer has an IP address before you try to connect.

Also, make sure you set the VM NIC to bridging mode, not NAT.
