Angry 'Nother one bites the dust.

Got side swiped/bulldozed by a semi this morning on my way to work. Left rear axle & suspension is blown, rear door is peeled, wheel is mangled, front door is ruined... and all that could be repairable, but the truck seated itself into my b-pillar while pushing me and collapsed it

Mangled Wheel:

I *just* redid this suspension within the last year.

Shredded:

Death blow:

All that carnage, and this was all the damage the truck took (Caution: gory pic ahead, my car's entrails are hanging from it's lugs...)

Incidentally, I ordered a bunch of parts to redo the rear brakes and bearings the night before this happened, they were delivered the day after. I'm selling these parts a a good discount here:

What a shame!

Good to hear you're fine and given you were wrestling with a semi, it doesn't look that bad. I do hope you have all those BMW receipts lined up and maybe the forum has tips on how you might even get reimbursed for some DIY time you undoubtedly invested. Go get 'em tiger!

Man! Glad you are alright!

That freakin sucks!!!! A lady backed into me in a pickup truck and that sucked but was very minor compared to your car's trauma.

Accidents do happen though. Most important thing is human injury. Hope the insurance gets you as good or better than the one you had.

Yeah but a little bondo could make that look like new!

Glad you're OK. The car is replaceable, you are not. Another e39 sacrifices itself for their owner! Been there, done that.

The thing that matters most is you're OK. Just make them pay, and don't settle to be low balled. Then, as others said, just set sight on another vehicle. RWD if possible....

Yeah, I'm ok. Just a little sore.

Been looking for a newer e39 anyway... that one was showing her age a bit @ 250k miles. I have a dealer friend looking for an 03 m5 for me.

^^ lol

Is it bad that I feel a little dirty considering a 3-series? 335xi would be nice. Though this is sexy as hell, too: http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/ctd/3209805950.html

Anyone done a part out? Considering buying the car back (depending on what they'll sell it at) and parting it out. For those that have done it, is it worth doing? All the interior is in good shape, engine is strong (though high mileage). Transmission seems fine. Suspension is probably shot all round...

If you're even considering getting another E39, think of all the spare parts you could salvage. How much do they want for it?

I was only going about 25mph (rush hour congestion). I'm sure if I'd been going much faster I'd likely not have walked away.

Oh for sure man, ppl can be super careless and they don't realize how fast sh!t can hit the fan. She hit me at about 45 maybe 50, threw me a good 40 yards. My Gamin GPS that was on my windshield is shattered, my speaker grilles are in the rear window. I remember the sight of the intersection a flash and the opening my eyes not knowing where the hell I was. Like I said, a situation at that point out of my control and saved by the E39. I would most definitely trust my life with another one.

The last time I got squeezed by a semi was on my Interceptor. I was lucky to survive with only a bruise leg and a bent clip-on.
