Everything else I've tried is much, much better than the BMW nav.

My "go to" unit is the Zumo 650 which is for my motorcycle riding but great in a car, too! Best regards, Don M

And google maps beats them both. I have an iPhone 5 in the box on my desk. Used it for a day and dumped it to go back to my S3. In Boston, my iDrive is better than Apple Maps

Goes along with the public apology the Apple CEO gave for the lack of consistancy the new maps system they decided to adopt.

Well everything comes full circle. BMW will be going back to NAVTEQ !
From telematics news Nokia has announced that its Location & Commerce business is supplying global NAVTEQ® Maps to power the next generation BMW navigation system. Launching on the BMW 7-series, this new system will introduce drivers to innovative new features and content including visual guides such as Enhanced 3D City Models and Motorway Junction Objects; and the BMW's Eco Pro Route which generates the most fuel efficient route. Eco Pro Route leverages a range of NAVTEQ® Map content to select routes which reduce fuel consumption by avoiding congestion and steep hills etc. In addition, data such as historical speed patterns, traffic signals, stop signs, driver alerts, bends and slopes is used to highlight key road conditions ahead which could influence driving speed. With advance warning, drivers can minimise the number of stops and starts and generally drive more smoothly at the most fuel efficient speeds. BMW is using the highly precise NAVTEQ® Map data required for ADAS applications such as power management based on height data and speed profiles and the Eco Pro Route application. BMW and Audi are both starting to offer map-enhanced ADAS solutions that provide a combination of safety and fuel economy benefits. However, deployment in cars has lagged behind trucks and electric vehicles that can demonstrate measurable advantages of combining map data with driver assistance systems, according to SBD's recent study "Getting map-enhanced ADAS implemented". The new hard disks are solid state which means they are nand/ram based. Traditional drives don't work well in moving platforms and with the costs down SSD has been adapted by the industry.
