Rust below the fuel cap

In my 530 rain water collects below the fuel cap, as a result a small patch of rust is developing. It should be a generic problem because the area is not well drained. Today I made a small hole close to the fuel filler door hinge so that water drains through it. Later I realized now water might be getting where it should not get. So what is the solution to the problem.

I always applied a healthy dose of wax twice/year in there since I purchased the car. So far so good.

The hole is fine, water will flow down the wheel well.
Don't worry about it.

I wax the area now, but the trough is so well shaped that there is always a small pool of water after rain. My car is is not garaged. In addition to the hole I am thinking of plasti dipping a small designer patch below the cap.

If you park the car inside, then it is not a problem.
For those who park outside, make it a habit to dry this area after raining or car washing.

so I had made the hole just below the hinge where there is a 1/2 funnel shaped depression. actually the whole was already there, all I had to do was to remove the paint and filler.
And today I painted every thing with touch up paint etc and thought of testing it. The damn water flows into the spare tire area. The flow is pretty good and it takes little time to make a good sized puddle.

So end of story is I again filled it up with putty.
