Please Help Me Find My Dad's Car! - '00 M Roadster

Hello, My name is Shaw and I’m 17 years old. I’m trying to find a car my father owned when we lived in SC before he passed away when I was young. It’s one of those things I’ve always wanted to do once I could start driving – find his car. It’s been quite the process trying to even find what town it’s in. All I know is that it is in Georgia as of 1/27/12 and registered with the DMV w/approximately 58k miles. I don’t know if anyone can search a database or service records for all BMW’s? The car in question is a 2000 BMW M Roadster. Just happens to be an amazing car on top of that fact it was my dad’s. I don’t know if there is any way you can help me but hopefully you can understand my situation and try all possible ways to find it. I’m not sure who this is even going to but if possible, you yourself or someone that can, please help me in any way to find my dad’s car!

These really are great cars, so the current owner may not be willing to give it up too easily...

I did as you suggested and joined the club. I also e-mailed the president of the ZSCCA and the Georgia area representative. Thanks for the advice! - Shaw

Freaked me out for a second there...mine is a Silver '00 and it spent most of its life in SC, VIN doesn't match up though. Search the M registry by the VIN, I was able to find out what the original owner's name was by it.

Hit control + F to open the find box and search for part of the VIN, I didn't see it there though.

I can not thank you guys enough. This is in fact THE car and we just attempted to make contact with the purchaser and current owner. Thank you again to everyone that helped. I will update you when I know more!

I have to say, if the cars in your sig are yours that is a pretty impressive stable for a 17yr old. Are you in school?

The cars are all in my household and are accessible to me when either are free. The Jetta is mine, the LR4 is my mom's, and the ///M WAS my dad's - were trying to buy it as we speak.

I hope you are successful in purchasing your M. I wonder what the current owner will ask for it since he paid $15K earlier this year. I am interested to hear how it turns out!

The car has been found and we have been in contact with the owner. As of Tuesday, it was ours for 20k. We bought it and it should be home (MA) in a couple of weeks!! We had no problem shelling out that money because the insurance company lists it as a collectable car. It's valued in the high 15's but it will only go up in value from there. There are only around 72 of it's kind (color combo and engine). Along with the fact it only has 58k miles on the clock and it's in pristine condition just adds to the value. We are so happy this forum helped up find my dad's car. It will be registered in the M-registry, ZSCCA and BMWCCA. We plan on keeping it for a very long time. Thank you again to anyone that helped in this process and who knows, maybe I'll get to meet one of you at a meet someday!

Wow what a great deal for the seller. He paid $15K 9 mths ago and sold it for $20K(33% profit). He will probably be on the lookout for more M Roadsters! I am glad you are satisfied. Too bad you didn't look earlier this year...

BTW you say 58K miles which was what it had when sold in Jan of this year. Has it just been sitting in a garage since then? No additional miles?

That is a great idea! Any idea how I can contact the boss? I would love to share my story... I'm at school so it would take some time but I think that is a great idea!
