Such a heart warming story. I am so happy for you. It would be so special to connect with your father this way. It worked out so fast, I'll have to believe you got some help from "above".

That is absolutely fantastic that you were able to find the car. I am in a similar situation (trying to track down my late father's 1970 Plymouth Duster) but I have much less information about the car to work with. Your story gives me hope that I might eventually be able to find my car as well!

BTW you say 58K miles which was what it had when sold in Jan of this year. Has it just been sitting in a garage since then? No additional miles?

I would say the extra $5K was more than worth it to get THE car your dad owned. Great move. Some things are worth more than money.

Agree, I don't think that's too much, assuming the condition is as described.

I'm sorry for the loss of your father. The funeral for my Father-In-Law was earlier today so I can partially understand your loss.

May I ask what happened to the car after his passing? How did the car leave your families possession?


My grandfather was the original owner of a 1972 Lincoln Continental which we still have in his garage, but when his house sells we will have to get rid of it. Sadly my garage isn't long enough for the car to fit.

Agreed- since the timeline is so short I have to wonder why it was ever sold. Was the owner you contacted the first person to buy it since your father owned it?

And to the other replies about my post. I didn't mean it isn't worth $20K, just that it was a stroke of luck for the current owner as he made a great profit in less than a year and likely did nothing except buy a car that was in great condition. It is too bad the son couldn't have been the one to get it for $15K...

Wow sticker was 43k and 12 years later resold for 20k, thats some great (lack of) depreciation!

Congrats on your find, I'd LOVE to find my dads 911 he bought right out of highschool when he opened his business. No vin unfortunately, still have the original blue plates with our last name on them though!

Somewhere, either in this thread or the Facebook one, is the statement that his late father had leased the car, so after the three (3?) year period, it went back to the dealer. I beleive the decision at that time was financially driven; you need to learn the whole story to understand.

Yes, $20k for an ///M with 60k miles__give or take__is a little on the high side, but given their motivation, completely understandable. Someday, I am hopeful that those numbers will look like a good buy, when the values appreciate to collector status.

The car was given up once the lease ran up. My mom had a new house and twins as well as myself to provide for so this car was too much at the time. She has regretted doing it ever since but now that it's back in the family, there are nothing but happy faces. You can read the whole story once it's published in Roundel!
