Question Bmw 535d rev fluctuation problems

Hi all, this is my first time to this site.

I am currently expriencing a problem with BMW 535D (2005) Automatic.

The problem is that as I am driving even at a low speed of 25mph the rev counter fluctuates and you can feel it inline with the car whilst driving almost like how a misfire in a petrol car would feel.

When driving on the motorway when maintaining a steady speed of i.e. 70 mph the same happens again.

When I drive it with kick down the symptom does not occur.

I have changed the air temp sensor as I thought this was the solution.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem as I'm not getting any joy out of driving my 535D
