Considering a 2007 328xi
Hi - I am new here. Just trying to get opinions from 2007 328xi owners about reliability, service, performance, etc. The car I am looking at is very clean looking. It has 57,000 miles on it and is certified pre-owned from a dealer. In looking at the service records, i saw that the prior owner had to replace the valve cover gasket at 52,000 miles, Is this usual for this car ? are there other common problems that I should be aware of or ask the dealer about ? Thank you !

The two common problems are
1)Head or Valve cover leakage do to broken head bolts they are aluminum because of the
magnesium block. 2)Valve ticking there are whole threads on both of these. Also watch out for sludge due to the 15k plus oil changes You can inspect for this by looking into the oil filler hole. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=627435 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13504 Do a search on head bolt breakage here or on the other forums. If you do get a BMW look up the Mike Miller old school maintenance schedule. Smaller issues are battery replacement As the car is a battery hog and replacement is convoluted and expensive at some dealers. and maybe the electric water pump. Also you should be aware of the issues and costs of runflat tires. Most of the serious car guys on the board don't like them very much. There are plenty of threads on this to. A lot of people put regular go flats on . http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...ight=head+bolt Last edited by ctuna; 10-06-2012 at 03:00 PM. |
