F12 / F13 (2012 - Current)
The future is now! The all new 6 series coupe (F12) and convertible (F13) details are out and dealers are taking orders. Still no word on when the 4 door Gran Coupe will go into production. |

Commuting..
For those who have a short commute in the Morning. Does the 6er handle it well?.. My last generation 6er had to be driven or put on a tender for the battery not to die. I see this car has efficient dynamics. Has anyone had any issue with the battery after several short trips without a long trip in between to charge the battery?..

I've had my car for 7 months, and I've had zero mechanical/electronic issues (not counting the glitches that just required resetting the system, like the sunroof sensor and TPMS false alarm).
My short, city driving is illustrated by my 11.9 overall mpg. The hospital where I work is < 8 miles from my house, and most days the total of my driving is making that round trip. In the spring I did a little more driving around town during the day on a regular basis, but I seldom took trips > 20 miles - maybe once or twice a week. I really don't get out much... lol

So you recommend putting it on a tender then?.. Did the dealer replace the battery for free?..

These cars need to be driven on the highway for at least 30 minutes a couple times a week at the flow of traffic.

"Need to be driven on the highway for at least 30 minutes a couple times a week at the flow of traffic"...what does that mean? For the record: I've owned three 6 Series cars (one of which was an M); all daily drivers; commute to/from work (each way) is about 30-45 minutes, average speed 37 MPH. Not a single problem, ever, regarding the batteries in any of those cars.

I should have said at varying freeway speeds -65 - 80mph, than at the flow of traffic. ![]() How do you like your 6-series seats (multi-contour) versus a 5- or 7-series for long trips?? Last edited by Ace535i; 09-27-2012 at 08:45 AM. |

I don't drive long distances all that much in the winter.. Can we agree that putting the car on a tender is probably the best way to go?..

2 miles daily distance to work + occasional 100 mi trip + one 700 mi trip = 7500 miles in 9 months with no battery problem.
That includes the daily commute in Minnesota winter - cannot imagine a worst case scenario for draining the battery (2 miles to work - open garage parking to freeze to 0, then 2 miles back and non-heated garage to freeze to 0), yet not even a hint of battery issues. In fact no problem whatsoever since the day 1 pump replacement. Make sure you do not forget to power off completely when you leave the car - easiest is to always lock it. The user manual specifically suggests that, as a lot of systems remain on when you simply switch off the engine. A second stop push will power off altogether Never used a battery tender in 12 years in Minnesota - never had a flat battery.

![]() ![]() ![]() When that time comes we'll see. It will be tempting for sure! Now, a question for you...when are you gonna go and try out the GTS? Let me know what you think when that happens.

I actually gave the Panamera GTS a test drive earlier this summer... Beautiful auto... There is a button for everything.. Including Sport Exhaust! I was thoroughly impressed. But my heart has been with the 6 series M Sport ever since I test drove one last winter. The M Sport exhaust is intoxicating. I am considering an SUV for my Fiancé.. She is in love with the Mercedes M Class... I am endorsing either a Range Rove Sport or a Cayenne.. We will see how that goes haha...
