Axel, you have the RennTech, seemed to be pretty happy with it. Is it still working out for you? You mailed yours in or dropped it off, right?

My concern is they are bringing this in from Europe, how do I know it will be for US Spec?

I was in touch with a company based in England who had a pretty good deal, I think it was a plug and play, two channel for around $600. I think a ECU re-map is better as they can really control all the parameters as opposed to tricking the fuel delivery and boost pressure.

But it is still tempting, no?

If you search through the threads you should find where someone stateside had a Euro based company/tune put onto their car. I seem to recall that even though the tune was supposed to be for US spec cars that upon putting it on and them dyno testing his car they had to do some changes to the tune.

ECU reflashes do not have optional settings in the sense of how that England deal has.

Go to XBimmer and see the thread that talks about the personal tuner. Sounds like they send you a device that you can download and upload with, without sending in the ECU.

The England deal was the DTUK-CRD-T. That was a plug and play with multiple settings.

I think Ronin was using this.

Need to follow up with himn on this.

The tune for Euro cars is not the same as for our cars. Evolve went through this when they started looking through our ecu's. Without getting specific, they had to spend much more time than expected to write their tunes for U.S. cars (adapt their Euro tune to our car).

I hope finnBMW can get the handheld option - that would be a very big deal!

If you are talking about this Velos deal as I said earlier I talked to Omar and I asked upfront if I have to send in my ECU and he said that I do. Either he lied to me or there is some misunderstanding on another forum mixing what can be done on different BMWs and ours. I did tell Omar I have a 2009 335d, so was specific too in what I was asking for and about. But hey perhaps he just does not know what he is selling too ..............

I wouldn't disagree, just saying there is a thread where he speaks to this.

It is not Diesel specific.

They are about 20 minutes from where I work, so i plan to set up an appointment and get this all resolved face to face.

Is it model year specific? As I and others have said on here, no one anywhere else has seemed to come up with a solution for our MY cars for a hand held tuning device.

Axel, you have the RennTech, seemed to be pretty happy with it. Is it still working out for you? You mailed yours in or dropped it off, right?

Yes I have the RENNtech Flash, I flew into Orlando then drove to LakePark both times since I had to do the EGR issue and it was flashed by BMW

What was the price you paid?

Unfortumately, Im a recurring customer and my price is different the actual price now is $1200 with a 24 mo. warranty on the Flash only!!

Do you have optional settings?

Lenny reprogrammed my ECU to have a higher top end, trust me I can feel both turbos whinning!! Even my mechanic told me , now it feels like a beast!!!

Any errors or codes tripped so far?

NO CODES!! The only time it goes safemode is in the dyno since thhe car has so MANY sensors, it reacts funny but I have been able to clock 300 whp, I think I have more but I havent done any dynos lately with the last flash

Frankly speaking you could go either way PiggyBack or Bench Flash. Based on MY experience the flash is the best way, NEVER had code errors eithher on my 02 MCS and now my 2011 335d, NEVER on the road, and I have used RENNtech since 2004

BTW I forgot to tell you I thoroughly love the Flash, Hartmut and his gang are premier tuners and basically you have to understand , people in this business that know about this understand that to get performance in any car there is a lot of R&D and ANY available customer willing to provide their car as a guinea pig. I hope I have been able to answer your questions

Something just occurred to me. I wonder if they don't have a tune yet for the 335d, only for the X5d? This could explain why they could send a hand held device to me, but not to Snipe.

I am not an expert so I was always assuming that the tunes were identical for both 335d and X5d. Maybe they're not? Anybody care to elaborate on this? Am I completely wrong on this?

I suspect there are enough differences in the 335D and the X5D that they require a different tune.

Gearing, tranny, etc... must be set up different as well.

I suspect the ECU and encryption in the X5d and 335d is exactly the same. Programming/tune from the factory could in fact be very different.

Good stuff. These guys are offering for $900 and will cut me a deal for being the guinea pig I suppose.

They will reflash if BMW were to reprogram it for any reason.

And as they are local I'm sure I can get them to correct any programming issue I may have.

They claim to have some diesel experience, mostly from Europe. Can't say I feel confident they have this totally under control, but I'll have to meet with them and discuss exactly what they are offering.

Again, their website and youtube posts inspire some confidence.

It's at least possible that they might have different ecu's, and the programs might be different too. If I were betting however, I would bet that the ecu's on both are encrypted and the problem will remain. Why don't you call them and talk directly with them and eliminate your concerns? At the least, you'll have the peace of mind of hearing the story directly from them.

Well said Lincoln, but be aware I questione if they have ALREADY done one for the 335d here statside, inlike me RENNtech had already a GIUBNEA PIG and were able to improve their settings, FLYINGMAN be careull, I wish only the best for our colleagues here at the Fest and other forums Im subscribed to, but always ensure that my friends pick the best for their cars!!!

Flying man thats a great price, but question them if they can throw in a dyno? Also, be there when they dismantle the ECU, trust me this has to be done PERFECTLY!!! otherwise any residues or lack of cleaning the edges will later affect your warranty and or damaged your ECU, I have seen this performed over 4 times on my 02 MCS and now the 335d. It is a tedious and difficult task, if im you I would love to see it perform in FRONT OF ME!!! If they faulter then run away, RENNtech lets me see the whole thing and walk their shop and question mechanics, my 2 cents on this.

I even asked them how many cars they have done and their reply appeared to just overlook my question. Actually one of the reasons I fear being a pig via long distances. I fear it is a euro tune and will need changes once put on a US car.
