Y Spokes glossy black or matte black?

Thinking of painting my 20" Y spokes black. Not sure what looks better - glossy or matte black...

I think black rims look tacky.

I would keep the silver.

I think you should string the spokes with LED's, like this guy:

If you are really creative, you can change the colors to suit your mood.

Don't do it. Even a Lamborghini looks cheap with black rims. IMO black rims cheapen the look of any car and the titanium/smoke/gray color ones look like they have brake dust on them. What a fugly trend . .

On the other hand it is your car and you should install/paint/modify or do to it whatever makes you happy and ignore our opinions - what do we know, really! Go for it

And after you do, post a You Tube video. That way you can prove the rest of us right, or wrong.

No big deal. The Fuchs alloys on 911's were black as far back as 1981, maybe (probably?) earlier. But just because black wheels work on a P Car doesn't mean they'd look good on an X5, any more than roof rails and running boards would look good on a 993.

Some people used to think Pontiac Aztec was a gorgeous vehicle. So I guess it's more of personal preference than anything else. And every BMW tuning company is using black wheels on X5. Go figure..

I've never met one. Was Stevie Wonder the leader of that group?

On this we are in complete agreement. But you DID ask for opinions. And based on the posts so far, I'm not seeing a lot of 'Festers who feel the X5 is going to look better with black wheels. Doesn't mean you shouldn't trust your gut, but since you asked for feedback...

Two possible explanations: Either their customers have much better taste than 'Festers do, OR the tuners have to do something distinctive to make customers feel their mods are worth the money, and will make their ride stand out from the crowd.

And please allow me to offer what I hope is a helpful suggestion. I know nothing about "wrapping" other than what I have read on the 'Fest. It does not seem to be a popular mod in the Boston area. And I don't know if wrapping would work (or work for long) on wheels. But before you jump in with both feet and paint those expensive 214's, you might want to wrap the two on one side of the car, to see if you really like the results. If it looks great, paint (or powder coat?) all 4. If it looks less than great, stip off the wrap.

I think DIY painted wheels look cheap and aren't very durable. Expect chipping. How is it going to hold up to road salt/sand in Chicago? Good luck not getting scratches when it comes time to change the tires. Also, what will it do to the re-sale value. Anyway, it's your rims to ruin. I want to see the You Tube video 6 months after you paint them.

Wheel color is not just an issue of "color palatte"...black wheels, gloss or more-so matte, speak of "utility'... as in 'just make em black, who cares it's a race car'... so on a porshe it says one thing- this car means business.

On an X5, as most of the crap that people hang on them, it says Poseur. Like fender flares, air dams, spoilers, lowering springs...great on a race car, dumb on an SUV. And because tuners make them does not make them a tasteful mod.

I was thinking about the same thing, from chrome to black wheels for my new (to me) black X5. Because I am unsure how it will look and if I'll like it, I am thinking about this temp paint spray-on:
http://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-CA.../dp/B000FN5OWQ

I am hoping to be able to take a few pictures, drive it a a week or so, then see if I like it before making an decision...

I have a lot of things going on right now, so this is low on the list, but will post pictures when I do.

I like them. Matte looks better to me than gloss. It's amazing how much hate there is in these forums.

Dislike is not the same thing as hate. One benefit to black wheels is their ability to hide brake dust.
