Is the 2001 X5 4.4L engine a valve / piston "interference" engine?
Hello,
I might buy an inop X5 for a reasonable price that has a completely ruined timing chain....off the cam sprocket....even broke the valve cover..... Before I completely write off the engine and shop for a good used one, I thought I would see if the 4.4 can survive a "completely" off the sprocket jump by the timing chain. Have the pistons kissed the valves goodnight? or is there a chance of reviving the motor with new timing components? Anyone have any experience with this situation? Thank you in advance for any input! JH |

You can always fix it with enough money. Yes they can kiss.
