This seems really dumb. So they're going to continue making the E70d, while the next gen model starts production in the Spring? Does this mean the next gen diesel X5 won't be until the 2nd model year?

When Jon posted that I was bewildered at the production schedule. But then I realized a couple things.

1) BMW, like any other manufacture tends to realistically determine schedules based on internal development timetables and consumer demand. Purely Speculating here, but I would think there either is a delay in the release schedule such as last minute fixes, or supplier concerns.

2) I think we saw something similar when the e90 was outgoing of production, and BMW churned a ton more vehicles than necessary to satisfy demand of the outgoing e90. So either we can expect a lot of inventory before the release of the f15 and the diesel. Again back to the realistic/worst case scenario timetable. Side note, although the line at the x5 plant is heterogenous, f25, e70, e71, I don't get how they would tooling the line to create 4 different platforms.

3) considering we didn't see the diesel here until 2010, I think its safe to say that we would not see the diesel till 2nd year. The same thing happened to mercedes on their gl350 for 2013, which isnt scheduled to roll on down to the lots till January 13 or spring 13, nearly a year after the launch of the 2013 x166 chassis. I'm guessing CAFE standards are getting to be a major pita for mfgs as we see a fondness to the oil burners here

I hoped they would bring F10 diesel as MY14, but the fact that they will continue e70d until Nov 2013 suggests for me that they could not be ready with diesel for MY14

MY2013 X5's where supposed to start production in Aug/Sept 2012 but actually brought forward to April 2012.

I think you will see in Sept 2012 more options becoming standard in the X5 which tends to happen at the life end of a model.

Guys,

Does anyone have a definitive list of what changed between the 2012 and 2013 model year for the X5d?

I've been trying to find one but haven't been very successful.

Thanks.

1) yes the push forward signifies that the f15s gasser is ready for launch springtime. Diesels are probs delayed

2) I don't know what else they're gonna make standard, since they've already added most to packages. The recent addition was the soft close doors to the premium pack I think.

I think we won't find out till we get closer to the actual SOP of the 13 diesel. So expect it around nov, at the earliest.
