Trouble resetting oil light and tpms light

I've followed the oil reset procedure and it doesn't do anything, still says 6000 miles behind (It isn't really that far behind). It just has the clock spinning constantly and doesn't tell me how much oil is in there. How do I fix this?

Another issue is that I have the light for the tire pressure light. The issue with this is that I don't have tpms. It wasn't on the stock wheels and it isn't on the aftermarket ones. This didn't pop up when I had the wheels put on. I've probably drove 8,000 miles before it popped up and now I can't get it to go away. I'll go to BMW if I have to, I'm trying to avoid going there at all possible cost and just fix it myself. My 5 series has I-drive so I'm kind of lost as to resetting stuff in my 3 series but I'm trying.

Your post is very confusing. What year is your car...it looks late model...a year that would have DIRECT TPMS installed, in which case your original BMW wheels would have TPMS installed from the factory. Did your replacement wheels have TPMS installed? Did you buy this car used? Not sure about your oil question...sounds like you need a trip to your dealer.

Its a 2006 335. I figured out how to properly reset the oil life indicator. Now my only issue is the tpms. No, the stock wheels didn't have them. My 5 series has it, so when I had the after market wheels thrown on I told them to swap it over and they said it wasn't on there. I've never had the low tire pressure indicator before, even with the stock wheels. I've driven around 8000 miles on the new wheels and tires before this message popped up.

Your 2006 has tire pressure monitoring via the rotational speed of the wheels using the ABS sensors (called FTM instead of TPMS). FTM is now used in Canadian and other country cars, as opposed to the US TPMS system. It's now reporting that one wheel is rotating at a different speed than the other 3.


1 ) Have you checked all 4 tire pressures?

2 ) There is a reset procedure in the manual and online. Here's the FTM reset procedure for a 2009, which should be the same as the one for your 2006. Seriously, before just resetting it using this procedure, go look at all 4 tire pressures.

Good information, but if his tire replacement size isn't the same size as "OE" his TPMS "alert" may never reset. Even on my E46 with the same replacement size, but not "authorized BMW replacement brand tires" my TPMS warning was on ALL THE TIME.

My BMW dealer service advisor finally said that they would DO NOTHING ABOUT IT until I replaced my tires with "BMW approved tires." Nice.

Could a wheel bearing that is possibly going out cause this also?

What about tire width? I went from stock to a 295.

Oh, I'd have been shopping BMW dealers in a heartbeat with that one. I can't see any reason that would effect it. What was the final upshot of the experience?

I don't know for sure, but I think I remember reading a post about that one time. It could be a possibility.

I don't think it should, but pointandgo's experience above may have some bearing.

However, you said that you've been running with these tires for 8k miles before the light came on. Since that's the case, I'd look for something else changing as the cause of the light coming on.

yeah, I checked the tire pressure last night and it was where they were supposed to be. I run the rear tires a little higher then the front, but I balanced it out and its still on.

Did you run the reset procedure after?

If you did and it's still on, it sure sounds like a sensor problem. Perhaps looking at the code will give us a bit more info. Try this:

• Flick the BC face switch up or down until CHECK CONTROL appears.
• Press the BC button on the end of the stalk.
• Flick up or down to scroll through multiple messages. On the tire pressure warning, press and hold the BC button for approx. 2 secs. This will show the CCID code.
• To exit the system, press the BC button again.

Let us know what the code is. Some possible codes are:

• RDC 139 Front Left Tyre Pressure
• RDC 140 Rear Right Tyre Pressure
• RDC 141 Rear Left Tyre Pressure
• RDC 142 Check Tyre Pressures
• RDC 143 Front Right Tyre Pressure
• RDC 144 Tyre Pressure Monitoring Fault
• RDC 145 Tyre Pressure Monitoring Deactivated
• RDC 147 Tyre Puncture Detected
• RDC 149 Tyre Pressure Monitoring Failure
• RDC 192 Tyre Pressure Monitoring Deactivated, System Initialising
• RDC 265 Check Tyre Pressures, Mismatch
• RDC 327 Tyre Pressure Monitoring Deactivated, System Initialising

I checked the tire pressure and then reset the light today, it hasn't popped up again. So lets hope thats a good thing.
