BMW 540i Sound System

Hey guys, now that I've finished with all my exterior, I'm ready to move into sound systems. Can anyone recommend me a good set up with lots of bass and good sound in general? Maybe an amp couple subwoofers etc. I'm not sure what to get haha. Leave your suggestions please!

A lot of people upgrade their stock speakers with these guys- http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/

I just put a 600Watt sub in my touring, it definitely solves the lack of bass.

Are you looking to shake everyone's windows or just get better SQ?
Also, do you have DSP?

I'm looking to get a lot better SQ with more bass, I'll def check into the 600Watt sub. I'm not sure what a DSP is.

I think the stock system sucks! It isn't loud enough at all. Makes me wonder if something is wrong with mine, the stereo in my Odyssey kicks its ass.

I just ordered the Stage 1 and the Sub for my E39 from BSW. If it's anything like the Media Bridge, it will be amazing. They are definitely the way to go on ALL sound stuff for your Bimmer. I installed the Dice Media bridge with Sirius, etc. and it's crazy nice. The sound and BT quality is better than in my wife's 2012 Oddessy EXL. I have been beyond impressed.

They have all the install videos on YouTube and they make it stupid easy to do.

DSP is the e39s "Premium sound" package. It makes aftermarket audio a little harder to install. There are a bunch of other threads on it as well.

Hi,

There's hundreds if not thousands of threads on what options and directions you can go for audio setups in the E39. I suggest you search those out and read up to begin evaluating what you'd like. From there, look at car audio dedicated websites and forums to gain more information and also then visit local reputable car audio dealers/installers for recommendations and listen to some setups etc. Some things for you to consider are what kind of music you listen to, how you wish it to be reproduced in the car (sound quality or more of a SPL / loud thump type), the budget you wish to spend.

As per above, some people are happy to just upgrade the speakers to the drop in, specific impedance BSW equipment, other's go for a head unit upgrade and speakers, and others will upgrade everything. As you do mention in a subsequent response you want a lot better SQ, then I'd suggest you need to go along the route of upgrading everything to premium brand equipment and choose between entry, intermediate or high end ranges of products from them depending on your budget.

In my instance, I go for the entry level to intermediate ranges from premium brands, that means an Alpine head unit, Arc Audio small footprint amplifiers, DLS speakers (mid and high frequency) and a JL Audio subwoofer all stealthily installed. Pricing levels are not bank breaking at all and the resulting audio performance has favourably impressed competition level car audio enthusiasts I know !

Cheers, Dennis!

They are coming shortly, we apologize for the extended delay! We are currently restructuring things behind the scenes to ensure we never run into an extended delay such as this again!

Same here, order date of July 31st. I emailed yesterday and was told the "shipping manager" was out for a week and that we should be receiving an update by Friday.

I don't know how much longer I can put up with this before I'm fed up and cancel. We'll see if I hear anything tomorrow.

That's the same story every week since early September. Sorry, gotta vent... but damn it, I'd better seen at least an update in the inbox tomorrow.

BSW has a fantastic rep on all the forums but please be more proactive on communications in this unusual predicament.

Especially since you billed my card five weeks ago even though I was told it would not be billed until the set shipped. I can see doing it a week early to ensure shipments go out to those with cleared payments but now it is over five weeks.

Ill540i why didn't you have it built to sit closer to the backseats and still have a trunk the price would have been about the same. I like the setup though I won't own any other subs but kicker. I got 2 l7 12" subs in my aviator and bout to get either a 10 or 8 for my 530i

I built a small box in the arm rest, for a cheap Polk 8" sub. I put an alpine amp in place of the CD changer in the trunk. Then I ditched the stock sub box. More trunk space and more bass. The box is a little smaller than recommended, but I could have used 1/2" MDF for more space inside. And a little more work to make it look better. I also added some poly-fil for cushioning, so the 5th seat is still able to be used. Not overly comfortable, but it only gets used once or twice a year.

It has satisfactory bass. The set up cost under $150. New sub, used amp, MDF and used arm rest to cut in to.
