01 740iL - Timing Chain Tensioner Replacement

Due for A Oil Change I Just Replaced My Timing Chain Tensioner Along With A Oil Change 5w/30 BMW Oil Syn. I Was Getting The Perverbial Chain Rattle At Start Up And Quickly Going Away Sooo Had The Oil Pan Lowered To Check For Worn Or Broken Timing Chain Guides Walla All Looked Good Installed New And Improved Chain Tensioner And The Car Is As Quite As A Churches Mouse On A Sunday Morning

i think im having the same problem. I am a noob so bear with me. On my way home from work i realized a noise coming from my engine and it sounded like a belt. took it to two mechanics and their telling me that its a chain tensioner. I think its coming from the left side were the chain goes. I think this is a winter problem huh thanks

Thanks Blue For Getting The Info Posted I Was Working Late The Last few days. It takes all of 15 minutes not very difficult to do. It really did quiet my car down I also think it will help save some chain guides as it cannot be good with loose tension regradless how BMW has treated the issue in the past. Bought the new a improved version updated part it is a little longer. Carmen 01 740iL...... recently installed lighted head rest.

What is the part number for the new and improved version colangelo?

This what I have It is made by a BMW vendor but BMW assigned this part number to it 11 31 7 531 813 Chain Guid Tensioner I think it list for around $150.00 but it can be had a little cheaper. My mind slips me on the manufacturs it begins with a B But I do remeber it comes in a small white with red strips xx box I am going by memory but just google BMW timing Chain tensioner for the M62TU and Links will pop up. Good luck As I said above know the maufactures of the part begins with the letter B (Beinson) or somthing like that.

What kind of car do you have. I believe I am having the same problem. But every wear I go people are telling me a grand to fix. One machanic even told me to swap engines. My car runs fines just that rattle. They say its the timing chain tensioner but u guys make it seem like its nothing. I have a 98 bmw 740 iL

The Tensioner is only a $100.00 part + or - and takes aout 15minuts to change out. is your rattle all the time or just at start up......

well at first it rattle from time to time and then now its just sounds like a worn out belt thats what i thought it was at first but sometime it will go away and come back. the mechanics at a few shops are saying its the chain tensioner and that the whole front has to come out and this and that. I just feel because its a BMW alot of shops will look at u like a atm machine. My car still runs and starts up. They want to charge me 1000 bucks for this job. Thanks for the reply

Get The Tensioner change and you might be suprised it is easy to do......
