Did I make this up, or do you not have to make your 2nd payemnt on a ED car?

I swear I read this somewhere, but now I can't seem to find anything. Pretty sure I dreamt it up at some point.

If you lease a car through BMWFS, they make the second payment. Consider it a way to lessen the pain while you can't use the car until redelivery in the states.

You are 100% correct sir!

It seems quite a few of us went through this same thing. My dealership insisted I owed the second payment and were of no help. Three calls to BMW Financial finally got it straightened-out. Work with them - they are extremely accomodating, if not a little slow in rectifying the situation.

Hey Gluhwein,
I received my 2nd month statement saying the payment will be made by BMWFS, but it's still not paid and it's due on the 13th. Should I go ahead and call them or give it time?

Yes they BMW pays the second payment but they pork you on money factor in the lease. Not really a savings, but more of a convenience.

Did you go online and check your account ("My BMW") at BMWUSA.com? If it still shows you being behind in your payments, I would call. If it's up-to-date keep checking it every few days to be sure.

Just to clarify here, BMW makes your second lease payment for ED cars. Only on a Lease!!! Not on a Finance Contract. The lease buy rate money factor is increased by .00030 to cover this "free" second lease payment. For Finance contracts, the first payment is not due until 60 days after the contract date.

Either way, nothing is really "free" since on a lease the money factor goes up, so it is the same thing. And on a Finance Contract, you don't pay until 60 days, but you are still being charged interest on the principal during this time.

This is just BMW's way to make you feel that you are not paying for a car while it is in-transit back to the USA. But don't forget that you still got a big discount on the ED price compared to the USA price. Plus, you had a memorable experience in Europe.

I have had countless ED clients and all of them were 100% satisfied and nobody complained about the money factor bump or added interest. It is still a great way to save and have a great vacation.

I was told the same thing for finance contracts, but when I went in to sign the documentation, the contract showed my first payment due in 30 days. I didn't make a stink because I have to pay for the car anyways. I'll just have it paid 1 month sooner . As it stands right now, I'll most likely be making my second payment before I receive the car.
