18" black rims on dark blue E39?
hi guys, 528i 2000 sport pkg
car is due for new tires and i want to use this opportunity to change to new rims. i want them to be BLACK. and i want them 18" instead of 17". currently i got stock "web mesh" white 17" alloys. color and look is similar to this, although mine body color is a bit darker - DARK BLUE, officially. since i'm doing this change (actually i'm just thinking about doing it), i have questions: 1. what do you think of black rims on a dark colored E39? anyone has pictures of their car with this combination? is it trendy, is it stupid? tell me your opinion. 2. should i go 18" or maybe 19"? any references/pointers to actual designs available online are welcome. also, any idea whats the resale value of the four original "web" rims w/190kmi on 'em? i'll probably want to sell them on ebay or craiglist after i get the new set. thanks! |

yeah I know all this online tools on tirerack or elsewhere where you select the car and the wheels and it kinda draws you the picture. but honestly, that doesn't make real representation of what it's gonna look like. i don't like these online tools and i want to see how it looks like in real life on real cars...

Hi
As per above, do a search for E39 and Black wheels. If you do like the look, by all means go ahead as it's your car. Opinions from others will vary from agreeing strongly with you to disagreeing strongly with you! it's the same for if you want 18's or 19's. Sell off your old wheels on ebay ! Cheers, Dennis! |

My own personal opinion is that dark colored cars need chrome rims. Those Black Wheels would look good on the Arctic White or maybe the Gunmetal Grey, but I like the chrome on Dark Blue.
My 528 is that same color -- I'm going to leave the Alloy Mesh on there and just keep 'em clean (I see WAY too many Bimmers with brake dust caked on the rims). And I'm not sure I'd want to mess around with the wheels anyway. Those Alloys are lightweight and the suspension was designed around the wheels. You start putting 20's on there and the whole thing becomes "unbalanced" You're defeating the whole purpose of buying the car. My focal point is the handling of the car, so any changes that I make will involve suspension components that nobody will ever see.......and that's OK with me. |
