2013 550 Surging Forward

I picked up my car Wednesday afternoon and I was psyched the car looked great....Dark Graphite 550 with Msport pack. I am coming from a 2010 e350 and it is my first BMW so it will take some getting used to but I was pumped. So yesterday morning (17 miles on the car) I stopped to get a cup of coffee I pulled into the parking spot and reversed to straighten the car out when I put it back in drive the car started to surge forward without my foot on the gas. When I applied the brake the car continued to try to go forward rocking the car back and forth. It stopped after a few surges then I pulled forward like normal and parked the car.

I drove around a bit yesterday like 40 miles with no issues. Anyone else have this issue with the 550? This has me worried about safety and quality concerns with an issue this early on. The car has the sort trans if that matters.

Thanks for your help.

Did the rpm go higher as you push the brake pedal harder?

My CLK550 used to do that in random stop and go traffic it would surge forward almost hitting the cars in front it was scary, it ended up being my crank shaft positioning censor.

2013 550 Surging Forward

Wow, that is crazy. I too have a Dark Graphic 550i and today my car did the same thing for the first time after 3 years. It scared the hell out of me.
What is even crazier is that I made my last lease payment today and was debating on buying out my lease. I am now rethinking.

Last, I have one of the first F10s; I did an ED back in June 2010.

No problems here. I suggest asking your dealer to look at it which is free.

That's odd. I'd have your SA take a look at it before you go on any length of trip.

As I recall, the DOT or NHTSA ruled that driver error for all these sudden Audi acceleration issues?

Correct, human error was partially to blame and other problem was Audi's gas pedal was too close to their brake pedal. Audi's sales numbers really took a nose dive when the president of Audi said that American should really learn how to drive.

Did he really say that while the USA was Audi's biggest market at the time? What a f$$king arrogant bastard!

Since this hasn't happen to many other people outside of the 80's except for Rick24C, thankfully, I am hoping it was some weird isolated incident. I was thinking maybe I pressed the gas and brake and the same time but I could not duplicate.

I am really starting to like the car so I am staying positive.......but I do get a little nervous when someone walks in front of me.

Thanks....positive thoughts

In the mean time, you may want to consult with your insurance company.......
