Z3 Roadster (E36/7) Replacing rear shock mounts.

Hey,

I recently lowered my 2001 z3 3.0
& after a while I started hearing a thumping noise. I read a few post that suggest replacing my rear shock mounts for heavy duty ones. I was wondering if I should also replace the front mounts or do those usually hold up.

They hold up, the rear ones are the weak ones.

Not exactly the shock mounts, but I have seen pictures of the Z3 front shock tower failing around the bolt holes. This seems to happen to cars that have been lowered to the point where they bottom-out frequently. It's not a problem for most set-ups. Reinforcement plates are available such as these:

Had the same problem when I first got the Z. Bushings were rotted and jacked. Bolts were loose and stripped. It was a mess. Sounded like I was driving on cobblestones all the time.

Bought new billet mounts from Turner Motorsport.
Install is super easy. Also found that my rear shocks could be fully depressed by hand.
That was a terrible find. Replaced them and went ahead and installed the eccentric bolt camber kit. Fairly good results.

As just a suggestion, if you have the original shocks you might want to replace them when you do the install for saftey.
