Precautionary Maintenance & Is she worth it?

I may be picking up a 2003 325i from a dealer tomorrow but I'm still on the fence. It has 121k mi on it and they want $9,888 for it. The gear box feels a bit loose as well as the clutch. It needs new pillar covers inside as the adhesive has given way to the fabric stretched over them. The head lights are a little dim and the body needs a bit if TLC and touch up. Needs the rear door window trim as well. Needs new tint. The previous owner was also a fairly heavy smoker.

Now with that out if the way, time for some questions.

What is the motor code for the 2003 325i?
I am in a sense down grading from a 2001 e39 525i and I know they need a cooling system overhaul every 80k mi. What all precautionary maintenance needs to be done in correspondence to the Milage?

I feel like they want too much for this thing. What do you all think is it worth it?

Engine for 2003 325 = M54B25 (or M56B25 in SULEV version)

So it's same engine like you have in your 525?

And about price... with all small issues you mentioned... could take 2k$ off and it still wouldn't be cheap.

Maybe i would expect that 325 isn't any easier in maintenance than 525 you have now.

I paid $6900 dealer price (car price + processing fee, not counting state tax and tags) for my 2002 525it with 99k miles a few weeks ago.
It has some needs, but sounds like not as extensive as this 325 you're looking at and with 20k fewer miles.

The price seems high to me, but it depends on how much you like it.

Did you check other prices? KBB etc.? I know kbb isn't always 100% spot on but still I have a feeling it would be less than 10k on there with all those problems.

Sounds like way too much for a tired car. Keep looking.

I bought a '01 325i with 90k miles, cold weather and premium package and extremely clean inside and out for $6k a month ago. That might be a little high, but it had new tires and all it needed was control arm bushings (ordered from oembimmerparts) and the A-pillars recovered, which I got done by a local guy for $80.00.

I think you can do better, but if you stay where you are, I really like the 5 series.

Yeah so did I. It's like ever since she was totaled I have had the worst luck. I have a thread on the accident if you care. But TX is shady when it comes to auto transactions!
