Camera and Nav

I am looking at a 2011 with no camera/nav. Is there any way to retrofit the vehicle? If not, is the display different in the vehicles without camera/nav?

I think that the center display, depending on build date, on those without the nav may be smaller. There was a running change somewhere in there. While anything's possible, I think the cost to add the nav and cameras now would be a lot of money, or if you did do it yourself, a lot of tearing out, rebuild. Getting the cable from the rear deck up to the front would require tearing out most of the trim. Nav become standard in 2012 models in the USA.

The center display is smaller 4:3 ratio instead of widescreen. However the camera should work if it can be retrofitted. (I test drove a GT that had the camera but no nav). However the nav even if it can be retrofitted will probably be expensive.

FWIW, the nav was nearly a $2k option prior to it becoming standard...there's a bit more to it than a standalone gps system.

option

I guess my option is a garmin for $150. In fact, the bigger issues for me is the backup camera, which I will really miss. I may just consider holding off on a car equipped as I want, but, it's hard to find low mileage used vehicles with Sports Package, which for me is the most important option.

As you may already know, the Sport Package was eliminated as a 2013 option for the F07, leaving only the M-Sport package, if you wish to so equip.....

Also I looked at having a newer Garmin (3790T),that I bought at Costco, installed by my dealer in my wife's 2010 335xi. This was because the aftermarket GPS available from BMW used the same unit. The cost to supply and install the GPS kit was well over $500. When I asked the Parts guy if I could bring my unit in he told me they had just spent two days trying to get one to work for someone else's Beemer without any success.

To find out why, I called Garmin in Kansas City who told me that their unit that is sold by BMW is a propriety one. No surprise but a bit of a pity.

The OEM Navigation as well as the rear view camera can be retrofitted in the F07
