Winter Tire Size for 2013 3 Series
Well today's 40 degree temperature in the Philly area today means the slow decline into freezing winter temperatures has started. I am familiar with the awesomeness that is winter tires having put them on by G35 Coupe and Honda Civic Si.
The question is on tire sizing. I have already decided to go with a 17 inch rim (I have the sport line, so 18s are standard on the car). Probably the A7 sport rim from tire rack. However I am curious if there is a practical reason not to choose the 215/55 R17 option over the 225/50 R17 size. I understand the loss in tire width, but I am not putting these on for super dry weather handling. There are far more options available at the 215 tire width, including some really good ones not available in the 225 width. Any reason I should not consider this option?

Given that you understand and accept the tradeoffs with your "minus zero" fitment; I think you should be fine.

215/55R17 is indeed the more common size. The only other downside is that there are no run flat winter tires in that size so you'll need to use non run flat snow tires.
