tranny going out!!??

im in desperate help and advice....i have a 2002 745LI with 74,000 miles, i purchased the vehicle about 2 years ago and never had any major problems...

so a couple of days ago i was driving and suddenly it jerked me forward when shifting into 2nd gear ( i think it was ), it's been doing it for a good 3-4 weeks but not all the time just once in a while. but this time i got a message saying " transmission failfase on, drive moderalty" i almost fainted when i saw that...i turned off the car for about 5 minutes and turned it back on and the transmission light didn't come back on but get the check engine light did turn on and stayed on... i did some research and most of the answers im getting is battery or alternator....im also wondering if i can take my car to a auto parts store to read my codes....any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Go to the DIY section and look up " Transmission reset". Quick, simple and its worked for many, many people here...im sure the site Vets will chime in shortly with other options

I hope that's all but I think it'll be more to it my check engine is still on and I do remember the car sorta jerking a while back but nothing really bad just once in a while...not sure if the battery would have anything to do with that but you ever know

I'd strongly suggest a service on ur gearbox ,I changed mine the other day and its so so much better

Gear box? Hmm maybe so..wondering now if I should get the codes read first before doing anything to it. It'll run my a cool $145 to get the codes read, I could invest that on the battery instead if that's what it needs...can autozone run a diagnostic check? Or do they not have the tool
for that?

Sorry, but Won't help with anything change your mechatronic gasket and feel happy with your tranny.

So there's no way it can be a sensor...maybe? Possibly?

Not a chance. Get that 18$ adapter install and feel happy. My tranny one day won't even go to any gear and all gears would blink, resetting would help for 1-2hrs but in reality it's better not to drive it bc of low oil pressure, so I bought all parts, new oil. Payed 200$ for labor and tranny is okay even after 7k miles, no jerking etc- smooth as butter
Just do it, its a must repair or maintenance on each >5 yrs old zf6hp

can you tell me what's a 18$ adapter is? probably a dumb question.....i never got any blinking at all just a small jerk here and there, should i get the codes read first before doing anything else?

so the " transmission failfase on, drive moderalty" hasent came on yet and the check engine light turned off and hasent came on yet neither....not sure if i should be thankful or prepare for the worst....im thinking of driving it on the highway today to see if the light turns back on, it's driving just fine....im thinking maybe the battery has something to do with all of this now.

Don't wait. The earlier you do it the better. Mechatronic adapter and a sleeve.

What if it's not that and just the battery? I sorta wish the engine light would turn back on so at least I would know where to start
