Engine seal recall?

Just got a call from bmw's service dept that there's a recall on an "engine compartment seal" which takes about 2 hrs to replace. Anyone have further info on this?

My 2011 35i X5 was recalled for this item in April 2012. Recall Campaign number is/was 51 34 11 and the title is/was Reseal of Partition in Engine Compartment. The replacement part is/was called a Butyl Cord Terostat, P/N: 83-19-0-000-537. I have no idea what a Terostat is. The part replaced the transverse lip seal on the top of the firewall that seals off the aft edge of the hood at the back. Must have been an underhood airflow problem or a wind noise supression probem. It was not a big deal and was done at the 15K service. I could not tell any change from before.

P.S.: My X5 was delivered on 09/06/2010, so maybe it was an early build issue.

Same yr and model as deanlin, a 2011 x5 35i, my delivery date was 9/2/10 so it must've been the same batch. I'm surprised and somewhat upset that mine was recalled 6 months later than dean!

From ur description it doesn't sound like the part is engine related? The stupid dealer said engine seal which had me all worried and questioning if I can still drive it.

The "dealer" may not really know WTF it is. He just gets a short note from the tech and calls you with a half assed explanation. his goal is "it's not ready, they are doing A, it will be done by B, You need to come in by C". Anything else is added effort on his/her part. And
Truthfully, most owners only care about 'when will it be done'

This recall is definitely NOT engine related. It is for a seal in the engine compartment at the top of the firewall and aft edge of the hood panel.

is it on X5D too?
