I-pad type screen / control center

Does anyone else wish they would go back to the integrated-into-the-dash look, like the 5 series used to be? I sat in a MY 2018 and they went with the I-pad thing. Meh, I don't know who started this fad, but it needs to stop. Is there any practical / engineering reason to have that sore looking I-pad panel sticking out of the dash?

Yes. You don't have to look down and take your eyes off the road.

No, I don't wish they would change it. I like it just the way it is. As Michael says, you don't have to look down to see it and take your eyes off the road. It's placement makes perfect sense. Most other manufacturers are now following BMW's lead, just like they always do. BMW implemented this design with the 2012 F12 6er and once the new G01/02 X3/4 comes out it will be fully implemented across their entire model range. It's not going away. btw, this topic was beaten to death in 2012 & 2013 after the F3x first came out.

No vw2bmw, no. It is chic.

Kissin' cousin to a heads up display, and so much more noticeable than the in-dash look, ya gotta admit: Can't miss it.

Yeah I don't like it. Although, BMw does it better than others. I'm also very pleased BMW isn't trying to make me use a touch screen to turn up the radio volume or tune it. So, as long as I get a few knobs, tactile buttons, and controls, I can deal with a "pop-up" screen that doesn't pop-up.

It's not my favorite, but honestly my BMW interior isn't flashy but everything makes sense to me. I can reach everything, it's all where it should be, nothing confuses me.

However, I've been lost in some Mercedes menus recently, rented a camaro and basically ignores the radio because of the touch screen, hate my sisters Ford system, and Cadillac's cue and the design basically kept me from even considering an ATS.

Nope, not as much as people feel the NEED to look at the screen for everything. The more in your face it is, the safer we will all be (since there will not be a modern luxury car without a screen for the foreseeable future).

And....in-depth mounting prevents easy touch screen op. Thus, pop-up.
